finder crashes instantly, gpu problem?

hi guys,

those past few days, i've installed lion (several times) and tried different things, but it's not really usable as it is now. Hopefully someone here can give me a nod in the right direction ;)

First, my hardware:

Q6600

GA-P35-DS4

GF 8800 GTX

4gb RAM

I'm currently running snow leopard (10.6.4) and everything works fine. So i thought it shouldn't be a big deal to switch to lion :) I followed tseugs guide and applied nawcom's mbr patch. To be save, i always test a clean install on an old external usb disc (it's actually a 2.5" hdd from an old notebook, rip). The drive is pretty slow (but snow leopard runs fine on it) and it takes ages to boot from that disc, but you know, just to be safe ;)

No problems with the installation. Everything starts fine, network and audio is working, it recognizes the gpu, cpu,… The main problem is, once i hit the finder icon in the dock, finder instantly crashes and i get this "open previous windows / don't open" dialog. if i hit open, everything crashes again. I CAN open a finder window for example through clicking on the downloads folder (dock) an choose open, but if i switch to a wrong directory or disc, finder crashes again. Overall everything feels a little bit slow, well starting apps of course because of the hdd, but also some animations aren't really fluid, e.g. if i switch with an app to fullscreen mode, everything slows down. On the other side Mission Control seams fine.

At first i tried an automatic generated dsdt.aml, then i've switched to my current snow leopard one (no changes). Then i tried Xbench and maybe stumbled about something interesting. The "thread" benchmark starts but it never ends, and the opengl benchmark results in an app crash. So i thought maybe there's something wrong with the gpu, and indeed, once i turned off Graphics Enabler, finder stopped crashing (but now everything is slow + bad resolution). So i removed the graphics enabler line and tried nvenabler (read about it in another thread), but now i'm back to full resolution with finder crashing instantly.

As i said, i installed it several times, but no changes. Any ideas?

greetings,

LiVe
