USB-PS/2 Problem

So I had Snow Leopard 10.6.3 running on my nForce mobo. It is a 680i LT. With a Q6600 Core2Quad in it. I found that upgrading to 10.6.8 would disrupt my use of usb and ps/2 so I used ##### to do USB Rollback and I was able to get use of my usb and ps/2 again. However, even doing the rollback didn't completely fix my problem. I have to wait about 10 minutes just to start using the pc. My mouse moves around the screen, but click does nothing, using the keyboard does nothing. After 10 minutes it starts waking up from this zombieness. Before 10.6.8 this never happened. However I just went with it and upgraded to 10.7 using xMove.

Now in 10.7 I am having the same problem. When I boot into 10.7, (i get no errors, and nothing says kext can't load in verbose.), the usb still does not work on boot. What could be causing this problem? Does anyone else not have usb working? It makes Lion a nuisance to use. I hope someone can help me out :/. If you need more information, just ask.

Note: Even though I can move the mouse around the screen, the keyboard isn't working, and nothing is clickable. However, I know the pc is working because the clock changes time, and applications open, such as system update.

I downloaded and installed the kexts you shared. I placed them in S/L/E and repaired permissions. However, the problem still exists. Does anyone know what else might be causing usb - ps/2 to stop working?

One difference after using your kexts is now the numlock is lit up on my ps/2 keyboard, where as before it was not. Oh and now after 5-10 minutes, ps/2 doesn't work. But USB is still working. Idk if it was your kexts, but my usb keyboard works fine, ps/2 one does not.

By the way, I have tried USB mice/keyboards, and ps/2 mice/keyboards.

For new viewers: My problem is that after 5-10 minutes after boot, I finally gain conrol of usb-ps/2. But I have to wait EVERYTIME. As if my pc isn't seeing the device, or something is wrong with io.

Same problem. Same person.

So after trying your kexts, I realized voodo ps/2 wasn't loading anymore. So I removed it for now. I might go back to my old version.

I tried replacing my IOUSBFamily kext to 3.7.8 and I still get the same problem. So I have tried 4.4.0 and 3.7.8 and same problem. I feel like the problem is related to another issue...but idk what it could be. I even installed a DSDT.aml using DSDTE and DSDT Patcher. which didn't seem to actually fix anything, but I hoped it would. I keep looking over verdants nForce guide hoping to find something...

iLeopard has a DSDT for 680i boards I might try, but they say you shouldn't use other DSDTs :/

I was not aware of your problem as you did not post in my nForce OS Lion topic.......but first try using the OS X Lion USB kexts plus the appropriate PS/2 kexts from these: 64bit_PS2_Kexts.zip

I was planning on posting on your guide about some other problems, however I read over your guide and didn't see anything in particular about USB problems. I even read over the specific problems, like Audio or PCI Configuration. And I don't have either of those issues. By the way I think your guides are extremely useful. I wish someone put them on a wiki to make them easier to look through :)

I will try the file you linked and get back. Thank you.

There is currently nothing on USB problems in my guide because I have had none and none have been reported to date.....until I saw your post, which relates to your use of PS/2 devices which are not naturally recognised by OS X (which expects to find USB devices)......

Pleased that you find the guides useful......the OS X Lion guide is a work in progress and I have tried to make it esier to follow by using more than one post and a contents list.......

I am installing the kexts as I type this. I know nobody with nForce has reported the problem, but I see a few others with it. Not many. I understand why it isn't in the guide, and don't think it should be mentioned unless this definitely fixes my problem.

I don't think navigating it is difficult. I just really enjoy the contents menu on wikis at the top. Like this.

I ran the system with nothin but -v entered and it worked!, thank you for the kexts :), I get no problems with loading any kexts as well.

Just to clarify......are you saying that now you have no PS/2 and no USB problems on bootup.......?

I have looked over the kernel logs and all the kexts loaded properly, however PS/2 is still not working. I don't really care, but it is strange. My USB keyboard works, as well as my usb mouse. I'll see if there is anything I can do.

You could try changing the OSBundleRequired property value in the Info.plist files of the PS/2 kexts from Safe Boot to Root.....

When the value is set to Root, the kext is required to mount root, regardless of where root comes from; for example, platform drivers and families, PCI, or USB.......

BUT be aware that when a kext's OSBundleRequired property is set to “Root”, it will always be loaded by BootX, even in single-user or safe-boot modes.....so, should the kext panic, the system itself may panic, requiring reinstallation of the OS or booting off the Mac OS X Installer.....therefore, unless a KEXT is absolutely required to mount root, its OSBundleRequired property should not be set to 'Root'.....

Say I was to try this, and it does kernel panic...

Would I be able to edit the file via another OS X or MacDrive in Windows 7, and then boot up properly again?

Yes, so long as you keep unmodified versions of the kexts safe on another accessible drive or on a USB stick etc. that you can then use via another OS X or MacDrive in Windows 7......

Thanks verdant, really appreciate all the help. If I give it a try, I'll post back here or on the nForce guide about getting my PS/2 working ;)

Glad to help......:) Hope it works for you......although OS X does not really like USB and PS/2 combos......
