This is how I installed ML on 1201n

1. Prepare USB stick with 10.8 genuine copy from MAS
2. Install chameleon pkg from my folder into your USB stick.
3. Erase (if any) /Extra folder from your USB and copy this one.
4. Install... Reboot.
5. Boot from usb and select the partition where you installed ML
6. Install chameleon pkg on your ML partition.
7. Erase (if any) /Extra folder from your ML partition
8. Copy mine.
9. Run Kext Utility
10. You can now reboot or install OSX update combo.

I don't know if everything works (facetime, icloud... and), because I don't use them.

DSDT provided was modded by me to work with ACPI Backlight Driver provided by HotKoffy http://www.insanelym...cklight-driver/

My Extra package: http://d-h.st/6hT (FORGOT TO MENTION THIS DSDT IS FOR 2GB BUILDS)

Sorry I've forgot to include chameleon pkg into zip. I've attached it to this post

Attached File  Chameleon-2.2svn-r2187.pkg.zip   3.15MB   99 downloads

I installed the 10.8.3 combo update, it installed well, but I can no longer use the built in keyboard and sound doesn't work either.
Are there some kexts that I should try installing, or something else I can try?

Thanks

Is your trackpad working? You can try to remove ApplePS2... kexts and install VoodooPS2Controller

Installing AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily into SLE will bring your sound back.

Could you provide the latest link for the the VoodooPS2Controller?
I want to make sure I get the latest version of this kext.

Nevermind, I got the keyboard working via the VoodooPS2Controller kext provided on the first post in this thread.
I installed the two sound kexts provided, but I still get no sound.

Thanks

Remove AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily from /Extra/Extensions if they're there. Install them into /System/Library/Extensions and rebuild kexts caches.

You know, every custom thing you need for your, AFAIK, nearly perfect, current 1201n installation.

Hi!

Sorry to have taken this long to answer: i am very involved with the AMD forums these days. :D

I use the very same files from the first post to get it to work, except for the AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily kexts (which fail to get my inputs working, and i am using another made by Mirone) and the DSDT (i made another with the help of Toleda and Mirone). When i update the system, i usually replace only the HDA and IOAudio kexts to the patched ones, so i assumed all the others either can persist despite the updates or are unnecessary at all. I use all of them in /System/Library/Extensions, since Mountain Lion doesn't seem to like the /Extra folder. I also use a modified BIOS which includes AHCI.

I'll later upload the AppleHDA, the DSDT and my Clover config.plist, as well as my modded Bios.

All the best!

DSDT (Mirone and Toleda): Attached File  DSDT.aml.zip   18.84KB   62 downloads

Thanks for that!

With Mirone's AppleHDA.kext my sound is not working at the moment (no device detected), probably because of IOAudioFamily.kext dependency ...and it's weird.

As you can see on screenshot below, both (old/working and Mirone's one) AppleHDAs has almost the same dependencies, especially IOAudioFamily (1.7.2f1) which I got. Strange enough for me.

Yes, I have working kexts combo so I can have audio working at any time, but since I'm on Mountain Lion, all possible kext/smbios/etc combinations give me some kind of audio stuttering. At any time (high usage & idle), especially when I launch some YT video (but also in iTunes/Spotify/QT/MPlayerX/etc) audio gets stuck after a few seconds. Then I have to pause it, wait for minute or a half, press play, and it works.. for a while again. I was so angry that I wrote a script (and an Alfred Workflow with hotkey now) to reset CoreAudio, which helps in a few seconds:
do shell script "kill -9 `ps ax | grep 'coreaudio[a-d]' | awk '{print $1}'`" user name "USER" password "PASS" with administrator privileges

That's why I am still searching for ideal audio solution for me.

So, anyway.. Long story short:
Can you please send your IOAudioFamily.kext? ^_^

Edit: Also, which DSDT should I use? The one that you've provided or maybe that which is in archive with Mirone's AppleHDA?

Both DSDTs are the same :)

I use the vanilla IOAudioFamily.kext without issues: did you try that?

All the best!

By the way, i'm on 10.8.4 now. Still works with our little beast: Attached File  Screen Shot 2013-04-04 at 1.04.00 PM.png   40.4KB   17 downloads

I've asked because they have different modification dates, that's all.

I use the vanilla IOAudioFamily.kext without issues: did you try that?

I was thinking that you have some other mysterious IOAudioFamily, so I was waiting for your answer.

So... I've downloaded 10.8.3 update, extracted /thank you, Pacifist!/ kexts, installed stock AppleHDA & IOAudioFamily, removed IOAudioFamily2 just in case (got this from some other random package). Vanilla.

Then installed yours AppleHDA from Mirone & replaced (probably 1st page's) DSDT with yours.

-v -f

Yup, sounds great.

Testing now.

I am still trying to get sound working.
I installed the Mirone's AppleHDA.kext along with the IOAudioFamily.kext from the front page.
This resulted in no detection of the sound card.

I haven't tried installing the DSDT (Mirone and Toleda) yet.
Is this DSDT for 2GB or 4GB system configurations? I have a 4GB system.

Do I need to install this DSDT to get sound working?
If so, what is the best way to go about installing it?

Thanks

Attached File  AppleHDA-DSDT-10.8.3-first-post.zip   1.44MB   36 downloads
- AppleHDA.kext (1st post)
- IOAudioFamily.kext (1st post)
- DSDT.aml (1st post, 2GB version)
Works, but audio is stuttering, at least for me. Nobody else reported this, so it should be good.
It's probably from the first post, but with all those different posts, versions and testing, I'm not sure anymore.

Attached File  AppleHDA-DSDT-10.8.3-MironeToleda.zip   1.19MB   71 downloads
- AppleHDA.kext (by Mirone)
- IOAudioFamily.kext (vanilla 10.8.3)
- DSDT.aml (by Mirone/Toleda)
Works even better for me, sometimes audio won't switch (speakers/headphones).
Thanks to theconnactic for sharing, this is just a package with all you need, with credits and links inside.

Do I need to install this DSDT to get sound working?
If so, what is the best way to go about installing it?

sudo mv /Extra/DSDT.aml /Extra/DSDT.aml.bak
sudo cp ~/Downloads/AppleHDA-DSDT-10.8.3-MironeToleda/DSDT.aml /Extra/DSDT.aml

Oh come on, just replace /Extra/DSDT.aml.

Also have a problem with iCloud, it says "got an error from the server...try later"

Did you tried all known AppStore fix? Remove all network interfaces, remove /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist, restart, add ethernet first, apply, then add wi-fi. This should work because en0 always should be assiociated with ethernet card. Also, add:
<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>
in /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist if you are using Chameleon and update it.

AsusHotkeys, earlier version is not going well with 10.8.3, I think, volume hotkeys still not working.

Attached File  AsusHotkeys.kext.zip   17.58KB   47 downloads
I have AsusHotkeys.kext and it just works. I have also KeyRemap4MacBook installed, for easier (than modding kext) function keys without Fn. Now I just have to press F11/F12 to control volume, not Fn+F11/Fn+F12.

Edit: As I see now with Kext Wizard, the AsusHotkeys.kext isn't loaded, but F1/sleep, F5-F6-F7/brightness, F10-F11-F12/volume, arrows/music control and fn+digits on letters works for me and I don't need anything else.

About the Atheros 9285 - no idea.

Thanks for the advice. I couldn't use the second method.
Since the DSDT was designed for systems using 2GB total RAM.
If I use it, after installing it and rebooting, the laptop freezes at the apple logo.

The first method works but results in lose of audio during flash video.
Is there another DSDT designed for this system using 4GB of RAM?
Thanks again.

~trogscave: If it freezes at logo, please boot with -v (verbose mode) and write here a few last lines before freeze.

If it freezes at logo, please boot with -v (verbose mode) and write here a few last lines before freeze.

If I use the DSDT.aml included with mestiso-1201n-10.8.3.zip it results in the following text before it hangs:

RTC Only Single RAM BANK (128 bytes
PFM64 (32 CPU) 0x80000000, 0x80000000
[ PCI Configurator begin ]

I am pretty sure it is because of the amount of RAM being installed is 4GB.
I figure that this DSDT is not for 4GB systems, as when I remove one of the
sticks of RAM from the computer (leaving 2B installed) and try and boot into OS X,
everything works fine, the computer does not hang on boot up, and the audio works.

For right now, I am using the DSDT from the first post in this thread that was designed for 4GB systems.
In addition, I am using the AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily kexts that you included in the ISO.

This results in having audio, but it is choppy, and it cuts in and out during flash videos.
I hope this information helps.

As this DSDT is from theconnactic, developed with/by Mirone & Toleda to support their AppleHDA, you could ask them for 4GB version.

Also, you could try decompiling both 2GB and 4GB version from the first post, look at the differences and apply them to this new, but 2GB, DSDT. Maybe I will try to do this later/tommorow, as I don't have time at the moment. Cheers.

EDIT: Got past the error by taking out the npci=0x2000 string and choosing BuiltInEthernet=No in the boot.plist.

Loureiro,

I followed your guide to the minute but get stuck at devfs_kernal_mount : failed to find directory / (please see attached pic) during the install process.

https://www.dropbox....uuc/photo-1.JPG

I've googled the above but couldn't find any useful info at all.
Worth mentioning is that I'm using 10.8.2 as my boot source and not 10.8.0.
Also, Hacked 0326 Bios with ACHI selected and 2 GB of RAM (which seems right for the supplied DSDT)

If you, or anyone else got a clue what might cause this please chime in.

Thanks in advance,
Jens

Hi musikprylar,

All told I don't have have a fully functioning ML 1201n, although I did receive the same failure as the one illustrated by your photo. I "believe" the problem is that the ML bootable USB was created improperly.

Create your ML bootable USB using this method:
http://forums.macrum...d.php?t=1401529

After years of lurking around InsanelyMac this is my 1st post.

Cheers,
e

Howdy droogs,

Has anyone experienced that the default/on-board display doesn't always work on boot up?

Thanks to the giants in this thread (and those that put in the hard work before them) with an emphasis on Loureiro for providing the guide in post #821. ML on my 1201n is a reality. I am still testing everything but this install (that I am writing this post on) is already better than my old Snow Leopard install (assessment based on never having had sleep or fn+f5 or f6 to dim or brighten the display).
