lareeth
I decided to install Lion on my Acer Aspire 7720 yesterday. The laptop can take two hard disks so my secondary drive is my OSX drive. I don't mess with the bootloaders, I just used the F8 key to select which drive I want to boot from depending if I need to use OSX or Windows. Did a fresh install of Snow Leopard using #####, installed the 10.6.8 Combo update, used Multibeat to enable normal booting. This worked fine, no problems. Installed my LAN kext, reran Multimeast to fix permissions, all still working. Ran through the upgrade to Lion, no problems, reran Multibest just in case. Still working. This was now a fully stable install of Lion, had no problems, had been using my laptop all day yesterday including reboots and two cold starts. The only program I installed yesterday was Firefox. Today I needed to get on with work so around midday I installed, Coda, MSN for Mac, Remote Desktop for Mac, VLC, Geektool and MenuMeters. I also used software update to run 2 updates which were the remote desktop patch and the update for iTunes. Had no problems after installing and shut down my laptop for dinner. After dinner my laptop decided that when I selected my secondary drive to boot, that it wasn't bootable and would then jump to my Windows drive as that's next in the boot priority list. Knowing this might just be the boot files messed up I tried to boot from #####, this gets me a lot further as it actually starts to load the Lion files, but then reboots as soon at its finished loading all the files. Booting in safe mode (-x) doesn't make any different, still reboots, booting with -f, -v, -legacy, platform=86PC, cpus=1. None of those work, as soon as it finished loading all the files, instead of bringing up the gui it reboots. Now I am hoping that I am just being an idiot and that its something simple I have done that's broken my install. Any ideas?
Noam AA
if i remember correctly then ##### have no support for lion, try making a bootable USB drive (u need mac environment, maybe vmware under windows?) and you can install macdrive or something to read hfs+ on windows, and see if everything ok as far as the drive itself. if you are able to boot from usb drive then maybe all needed is some rapier permission and to install chameleon again hope it helps
lareeth
I have MacDrive already installed on my windows drive, this can see the lion partition fine and reports no problems, so the partition itself has no problems. What if I replace Chameleon with an alternative boot loader, whats the best boot loader for lion?
