I saw your xbench scores, so i ran it on mine and...I don't really understand the xbench scores, i'm guessing higher is better??

(i undersstand the HD read/write, and the squares FPS, but i dont know about the rest...)

My chipset is a 945GM, Centrino Duo (1.66ghz), 1mb ddr2,

would someone mind explaining my scores to me?

Results- 58.82

CPU - 60.94

Thread - 154.33

Memory 95.95

Stream - 105.05

Quartz - 100.05

OpenGL - 179.93

Disk - 15.18 (its an external :/ )

Yes, higher is better! but 58.82 is not a very good score for such a config :( your disk score is totally lame, think about changing it as soon as you can and should see a great improvement...

ROXR > That's it, i don't think P965 boards are a good choice for the moment, maybe it will change soon but the topic's title is "What is the best mobo ACTUALLY" and actually, even they are not completely supported at 100%, 945G boards are the most compatible ones.

Hello

The first problem is solvented, I found the codes of audio ALC883 and it work.

this is 284b8086

the procedure: (I copied :thumbsdown_anim: )

1) Delete AppleHDA.kext:

In Terminal, type:

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

2) Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext:

In Terminal, type:

sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/info.plist

Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w):

<key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key>

change the string to:

<string>0x10ec0883</string>

Exit pico

sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w):

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

change the string to:

<string>0x284b8086</string>

Exit pico

3) Clean up the system:

In Terminal, type:

sudo diskutil repairpermissions /

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/

4) Then, reboot

hi ...

I'm not so familiar with the terminal

how are changes saved

after I edit these sound strings you suggest above

<string>0x284b8086</string>

do I have to save a NEW terminal

any help is highly appreachiated ...

thanks

You do not need terminal to do it. Simply you enter like root, you edit kext with textedit and save. Soon drag kextcache to the trash and restart.

This is unnecesary to delete AppleHDA.kext. The first pass is bad.

My 19" LCD doesn't allow more than 1280x1024x32@75Hz. (I don't see higher resolutions in Monitor pane)

QE and CI are supported with i945G. (and also X1600 with hacked driver)

I have 2 questions: The Usb works ? If i buy a core 2 duo... OSX see it like a dual processor or only like single processor ?

I finally managed to save changes with

[V] + [O] + [Enter]

but I still have NO sound on my

ASUS P5WDH Deluxe, 975X, FSB1066, Audio, 1394 ,RAID, GLAN

+ iTunes hangs (daisy wheel for ever)

and when I choose

show the volume in the menu bar

and click on it in the menu bar

it keeps vanishing from the menu bar

Ahh, your code don't must be <string>0x284b8086</string>, this is only for ALC883 audio.

try wit this for ALC880 codes

1. Delete AppleHDA.kext

2. sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

3. sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kext

4. sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist

12. reboot and enjoy sound and fully working os x 10.4.6.

ok, i think you'll see a major improvement once done ;)

I did :wallbash:

Here's my new results

Results 81.80

CPU - 61.18

Thread 157.82

Memory - 96.91

Quartz - 102.9

OpenGL - 179.83

Disk - 30.02

Does the disk score still seem somewhat low? Its a 5400 RPM drive so maybe not? :/

One thing i noticed that was better instantly was my boot time, it went from approx 1.5 mins to about 15 seconds.

i've told you! maybe you can get better results with a 7200rpm disk, but it's a macbook? or a mini? if it's a laptop anyway 7200rpm discs are not a very good choice because of their prices and heat spreading. anyway your score is good :)

I first had a problem with USB from the main board

then I pluged a usb printer to the front panel first with installation

after restart the USB from the main board also worked

Yes, i never had any problem with USB, it worked out of the box :

- USB Logitech keyboard and mice Wireless

- USB Key

- External DVD writer

- Nikon D50 in iPhoto/aperture/finder

- PSC1213 HP printer (with HP driver)

My case does not have front usb ports, so i only use the 4 usb at the back of the mobo (do not try internal usb ports)

Concerning dual core, both core are recognized :

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: jMac

Machine Model: ADP2,1

CPU Type: Intel® Core2 CPU 6300 @

Number Of CPUs: 2

CPU Speed: 3.8 GHz

The best mobo for OSX86 & Conroe is the Asrock ConroeXfire-eSata2 because that is the m/b I use. OK, just kidding but it's really quite good.

GOOD

- Audio : Minor plist edits = Working stereo out and most importantly via the proper green jacks.

- PCI-E works great with an MSI x1600pro

- Built-in firewire, eSata connectors.

- 3 PCI slots

- Much cheaper than 975 boards

- Uses a 20-pin ATX power connector (good for older PSUs)

BAD

- LAN : Sorry have to wait for Realtek drivers, meanwhile get a PCI card.

- FSB only up to 350MHz (not good for extreme overclockers)

- No onboard video for those who can't find a compatible PCI-E card

- Asrock sounds cheap compared to Intel, Asus or Gigabyte

- Uses a 20-pin ATX power connector (Must get an adaptor)

- Only 4 SATA ports

- Only 1 IDE channel

mir...

Yes i agree, this is a definetly good mobo for an osx conroe based system, but i think that the Conroe945G-DVI is better because it's about the same price and :

- it's µATX, so can build a small system

- it has GMA950, which aloud those who wont play (like me) to avoid buying a pcie vga card, and it's "out of the box" no need to install anything, QE and CI running like hell

But it's not perfect, lacks firewire and lan doesn't work, also overclocking is not terrific (between 299 and 350mhz fsb).
