Okay; Apple is still giving Xcode away - only instead of including it with the installation, you have to go to the Mac App Store to download it. Still, since it's free (as long as you have Lion GM/RTAS installed), create a new Apple/App Store ID (with NO payment information; alternatively, use your existing one) and download it.

Once it finishes loading via the AppStore, it will launch the installer. At some point during the install, it will complain that you need to close iTunes. This may be confusing, especially if you haven't even *run* iTunes in that session - the issue is the iTunesHelper.app, which starts as a startup process whenever you run Lion. Go to Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor - this displays all the running applications and processes. Kill the ITunesHelper process; that should make the alert window go away, and Xcode will finish installing. (This issue is not unique to Hacks; therefore, please don't think it's some dirty rotten trick by Apple; this happens with any Mac with Lion installed/running and installing/updating Xcode.)

Are you sure the iTunes bug is still affecting retail installs? I did a fresh retail (downloaded from App Store) Lion install on my hackintosh yesterday and installed Xcode from the App Store last night. No issues with iTunes.
