Hey guys, you did a great job! Actually I am not really sure about installing Mac on my HP Pavillion DV7. I have the Intel i5 460M CPU with intigreated Graphicscard (Intel HD Auburndale Ironlake-M). Unfortunaly I can not deactivate it in the BIOS (just via Windows). Does your patch chage the GPU automaticly? Or is there a driver for my Intel GPU? Thx alot

Check out the Intel HD GMA 5700 thread in the 'Hardware > Graphics > Intel' sub-section. (5700 is the Intel HD Graphics model in the Intel Arrandale CPUs. 5700 is currently unsupported, but we have recently had an optimistic engineer post in the thread, who claims he has the know-how to get it working, but DOESN'T have a laptop with that hardware with which to work on. A donation via paypal link has therefore been opened, with the goal of raising enough money to afford a cheap system with the hardware so the engineer can work on getting it to work. This won't help you with your 5650, but it will hopefully result in a working integrated HD Graphics, bringing custom resolution and graphics acceleration to your own system.

Anyone got 1600x900 working under Radeon HD 5650? I tried all methods and somehow still can't get qe/ci to work. I could get 1600x900 to work fine with GraphicsEnabler=no using force EDID profile but no QE/CI. If I use GraphicsEnabler=yes, I got scrambled screen. I've tried SwitchResX, Screen sharing, even using Logmein to set the resolution. I still getting the scrambled screen.

So is anyone with screen resolution of 1600x900 got it to boot with QE/CI enabled?

Hello again everybody,

I am attempting to install Lion so that I may be able to get my 5650 card working. But, I cannot install Lion because of my graphics card!

Screenie: post-638143-1321313254_thumb.jpg

The "ACPI_bla_bla_bla" is not the issue as I have gotten rid of this in the past.

The issue is "Device in slot: :SLOT--1" which oddly enough repeats twice. Slot 1 is where graphics are.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Can I do something to get around this problem?

Any suggestions/tips are greatly appreciated.

-Jugz

TUTORIAL - Ati Radeon 5650 mobility on Lion: (Thanks to Dannii for the tutorial and samukbg for the boot file)

from http://www.kexts.com/view/1502-qe-ci_with_..._lion!.html

1. Install Lion. I used the USB method & Lion GM.

2. Once inside Lion desktop: install Chameleon RC5 r875.

- Click customise & only have "Chameleon Standard" Selected.

3. Replace boot file. I use Chameleon Wizard:

- Folder On Disk > [select Folder With Boot File] > Install Method: Update > Target: [Your Lion Drive] > Install.

Not sure if this is needed but this is what else I did:

- Folder On Disk > [select Folder With Boot File] > Install Method: Update > Tick: Update boot1h > Target: [Your Lion Drive] > Install.

4. You do not need any extra kexts because the ones you need come with Lion BUT I have included my own from Lion GM.

- Install with Kext Utility (Drag & drop the kexts on to Kext Utility). Location of course: S-L-E.

5. Sort out your EDID: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=208410

- Mine is included BUT I do not know if it will work for you, so its best sorting out your own!

- Replace: DisplayProductID-717 In: System > Library > Displays > Overrides >DisplayVendorID-756e6b6e > [Here]

(Edit: in windows7 I used http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm to get the EDID. I attached my EDID. Your EDID should be like this. DO NOT USE MINE!!)

6. Edit your: com.apple.boot.plist to include (mine is included for an example):

- AtiConfig: Hoolock

- GraphicsEnabler: Yes

7. Not sure if you will need to do this but this is what I did. Repair permissions of Lion drive in Disk Utility.

8. Run Kext Utility.

9. Reboot & PRAY!

Hi !!!! First of all THANKS dude, that was the only and only tutorial worked for me so far. i ve got great resolutions etc etc..!!!!!! There is one small problem. It seems in the display (Preferences) that i can get higher resolutions than my card is compatible with and there is no 1366x768 :) i did as one guy said with SwitchresX, [setting by yourself the resolutions-save them- reboot and it should be in Displays] ITS not over there (i forgot it, in the SwitchresX menu in my resolutions box said [NOT ACTIVATED-INVALID?])... i am running right now with 1280x768@60 and there is a lame scale right of me.... Here is my straight question--> How can i set my res to 1366x768 in switchresX?

thank you

Tiers of happiness on my eyes, i though FINALE I ll get my resolution as i want to with my ATI 5650 working!!!!!! now, don't get upset but I CANT SET MY MONITOR TO 1366x768 THERE IS NO even an option in my display box. Then i install SwitchresX but again it didn't work... Please, i am right now with 1280x768 and an ugly black scale right on my monitor.... help!!!!

Hello guys! I followed the guide with my signature system running SL 10.6.8 however at reboot It doesn't load the "AtiFramebuffer" kext. Don't know exactly why, I did everything as you wrote in the tutorial :/ My opinion is that the boot file isn't compiled for my ids (vendor/dev is 1002:68C1 and SUBSYS 036E:1025), as I get no video card related messages at boot. I already set up the Forced EDID but the resolution is always the same so what do you think I should do? Please help me, I've been waiting for a long time to get this card working on SL!! D:

Prior to this tutorial:

Resolution is correct, aspect ratio is correct on my Lion 10.7 install. No QE/CI

Following this tutorial:

I followed the guide exactly, I got to the desktop and found QE/CI isnt yet enabled.

In display preferences, I see confirmation that my current resolution is a forced EDID enabled, (that res and aspect ratio were already correct going in to this tutorial) but no QE/CI. Is there something else needs to be done to get it to work?

THANK YOU!!!! IT WORKED!! it took me a week of daily searching, then the past 3 hours of trying to understand hex code and converting to base64. Many errors were ran into, I was just about to quit, then I discovered your 21MB file with the HOW TO in sample files. I was able to plug in my EDID and the rest was copy/paste.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

edit: so it appears this version doesn't use chameleon.boot.plist, atleast not located under /Extra. That means settings can't be manually managed.

I've searched for "chameleon.boot.plist" and only 4 come up, one under /Extra, and the rest are backups. Does that mean this version of Chameleon doesn't use it at all, and can't be modified??

Are all you guys who got your 5650 working still using the old Chameleon 2.0 r875?

^^^Solution on Post #114^^^

I've also found that HDMI doesn't work. With HDMI plugged in it makes my laptop go black and it shows a blank default OSX Lion wallpaper on the TV (although it's differen't than my currently set wallpaper). There's no mouse, and nothing at all I can do. When I unplug HDMI my screen on my laptop comes back and I can interact with it again.

I saw there is a new chimera update that has 5650 support. So no more custom boot file?

I'm going to try this week with [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] and chimera 1.6, I hope it finally works!

Did you ever try it? I tried Chimera 1.7 and it hangs when booting up. Then when it finally does I'm just stuck at a black screen. If I try with HDMI plugged in the same thing happens, but on the TV it's a white screen instead.

I couldn't seem to find version 1.6 anywhere, I wanted to give that one a try just incase.

If you get stuck trying to boot up all you have to do is put in your iAtkos CD (or any CD that will bypass your HDD's bootloader) to get into your OSX and successfully change settings/replace working bootloader again.

AHA! So Chameleon 2.0 r875 doesn't use org.chameleon.boot.plist, it uses com.apple.boot.plist. The solution is simple:

Here's how to edit any settings/themes you want with the patched Chameleon 2 r875 for Radeon 5650!

-Use Chameleon Wizard to change whatever settings/themes you wish, just like you normally would.

-Go to /Extra and make a copy of your org.chameleon.boot.plist, and rename it to com.apple.boot.plist.

-Next time you reboot, the changes will work!

You could also open com.apple.boot.plist through chameleon wizard, however each time you click out of the tab it goes back to org.chameleon.boot.plist by default, I don't think there's a way to change that. Also, doing it this way won't change your themes, it only changes your settings, better off with the simple 3 steps above.

I have partial success. I found out what I was doing wrongly. I was trying to install the Lion kexts. Once I stopped doing that but followed the entire procedure, it was working using the kexts that came with my own lion installation.

The reason why I say it's partial success is because while hardware acceleration is enabled, my display does not go to sleep after the stipulated number of minutes in the preferences. The display just freezes. A click of the mouse or touchpad will unfreeze the display.

Does anybody else have this problem and a solution? I want my display to go to sleep after 10 min. of inactivity so that the screen is black. If the screen is illuminated I can't leave the laptop on at night while I go to sleep.

Hey guys had to digg this topic, so sorry about that, to my problem.

i am now trying to fix my ATI Mobility radeon 5650 to work on Lion 10.7, but no dice.

I followed the tutorial on this page (and more like 4 or 5 different tutorials on other places) but in the end, i ended up with the 1024x768 (that lovely resolution LOL)

so here is what i did i have 10.7.0 installed on my sony vaio VPCEB1S1E its a core i5 430m which also has some sort of intel integrated graphics and runs with our ATI 5650m, well after installing lion, i fixed most of everything, and am now stuck with graphics, what i did was boot into windows extracted the EDID using MonInfo convert it from Hex to base64 then got that file from \System\Library\Display and so the 714 file if i am not mistaken pasted the string into the correct spot between the data tags, and rebooted, on chimera (version that came with ###### can-t remember which one now) i booted with AtiConfig=Hoolock GraphicsEnabler=yes and back on desktop it was the same, same 1024x768 no QE/CI, i don't know what i am doing wrong...

I also would like to point act the following on system information the Graphic/Display is detected as following:

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 3 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x68c1

Revision ID: 0x0000

Displays:

Internal LCD Forced EDID:

Resolution: 1024 x 768

Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

It never detects it as ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 like i have seen in some videos.

I also noticed that the DeviceID+Vendor ID making it 0x68c11002 is NOT on the ATI5000Controller.kext so i decided to add it, same luck no dice.

I never added the ATI files cause they are on Lion so there is no need to add them on System\Library\Extensions, also same for the boot file, never used it since chimera/chamelon now detects the GPU, which can clearly be seen on bootup before i changed the org.chameleon.plist it would say ATI5650 and Aticonfig Eulumer or something like that which was one of the profiles, i then changed the chameleon.plist to hoolock like i said above, and it did change on boot so i know that is working! it now says AtiConfig=Hoolock, Also as you can see by the Display name i already did the EDID hack as you can see the display is called internal LCD forced EDID, so why is it not working?

is it chimera? is EDID hack that apparently is working fine (and showing the monitor name as it should) is it the framebuffer? is it the intelGraphics messing with my ati? should i delete them? (but then again card is detected as Vendor ATI) how should i proceed?

hope you guys can help out :)

I'm on the go so I don't really have time to search for links, but did you download and follow the guide in the form of a 20mb zip file? Inside the zip is a folder for each step you follow containing the required file. The whole thing is just copy/paste. For one of the files you do have to plug in your EDID, unconverted. Plisteditor will convert it for you. I was struggling too until I found that zip folder guide.

I did follow hundred times. All I got is recognized card and native resolution, no qeci. I got it work changing whole ATI kexts to lower versions (like from lion dp). But here is another problem which actually unresolved in many topics, why it works in 16bit color mode only??? Whatever I do I can't fix it even through dsdt patching.

Hello , I have a Packard Bell LJ75 and i have followed the guide, the better i get is perfect display on VGA or HDMI(depends on what frame buffer i choose) but on LVDS i always get at least 4 or more blurry mirrored screens like in the picture; i injected the EDID and it appears on switchresx, but i never see an EDID entry in `ioreg -l` command´s output. In options there are some resolutions up to the 1600x900 what is the max my main screen can get, but choosing between them don't fix the problem.

Some time ago i read a post where people edited the ati.c file to include their ID and sense, ¿could it work or its unnecessary with new loaders?

Hi all, just thought I should add my input here.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 which I have installed iAtkos L2 on. I have been trying to sort out the EDID part of this guide but it never boots into the correct resolution. So I am currently installing W7 to another hard drive to get the correct EDID information, and hopefully it will fix this!

Awesome guide guys. Managed to get QE/CI without SwitchresX. However, the only thing keeping me from enjoying my working graphics is the cpus=1 setting. I think samukbg managed to fixed it on a HP envy. I suppose it's DSDT related. Anyone with the same issue? 5650 graphics card and I3,5,7?

Could anyone get this working with FULL HD (1920x1080) screen?

Please let me know the framebuffer used in that case?

I've had a partial luck.. it works sometimes but not always.. let's say once in 10 reboots.. all other times I could just see scrambled display.. with GraphicsEnabler=No it works always but obviously without QE/CI
