gotmilk70 Posted July 12, 2011 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Hello everyone, Just thought I would share my experience with getting Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my laptop. First, let me give the specs of the Sammy: Intel Core i5-460M Arrandale CPU with Hypertreading Technology and Turbo Boost 4 GB DDR-III PC-1333 RAM (2 x 2GB Sticks) Intel Integrated HD Graphics (5700 Series I think.) nVidia Geforce 310M with 512MB Dedicated Video RAM Powered by nVidia Optimus Technology 640GB Samsung HM641JI SATA 5400RPM Hard Drive 8x DVD+-RW Slimline Samsung TS-U633F Drive Intel High Definition Audio (Unable to determine the Codec used, Would like to use AppleHDA, but can't at the moment) Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 Wireless a/b/g/n PCI-Express Card Samsung SCB-0380M Webcam Elan-Synaptics Multi-Touch Touchpad Marvell Yukon 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Since I have unable to find a way to get the built in ethernet card to work under Snow Leopard. I swapped my Intel Centrino Wireless PCI card with a Dell Wireless 1510 Mini Half Height PCI-Express one so I can get native Wireless. I also added a Rocketfish RF-MRBTAD USB 2.0 Bluetooth Micro Adapter to add native Bluetooth, I Like that one because it's cheap on amazon, and I am currently using it on my Desktop Hackintosh. I had to patch the BroadcomAppleBluetooth.kext to allow me to be able to set it to wake from sleep. Onto the Juicy part, The install: The normal [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]/[url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] method that is popular did not work. I managed to get it to install, and boot for the first time. After updating to 10.6.8 however, the unit does not boot. Here is the method that I used to get me where I am today: Edit #1: I figured out how to get it to install normally via the regular [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]/[url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] Method. I basically Installed 10.6.3 using the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], then Retail Snow Leopard Retail DVD. I used the -v -x busratio=19 maxmem=4096 flags. Booted right up into the install screen. I formated the hard drive in 2 partitions, so I can use the second one for Time Machine. Installed Mac OS X 10.6.3 with minimal options and then restarted when finished. I again booted with [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], from the hard drive using the same flags. Once on the desktop, Installed the 10.6.8 combo update. When that finished, I ran [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]. I chose the UserDSDT install (I generated one using DSDTSE and applied some patches) and some other choices. I chose VoodooHDA, the PS2 kexts from below, Chimera, MacBookPro 6,1 smbios.plist, and all of the OSX86 software. Installed all of that and I also went ahead and deleted all of the AppleIntelHDGraphics series kexts and injected the EFI into my Apple.com.boot.plist, (thanks to Manor for that tip) And then ran Kext helper to repair permissions. I then crossed my fingers, and rebooted. If I kept the AppleIntelHDGraphics kexts, after reboot it will get stuck on a black screen. At this point, I was able to boot Snow Lepoard via Chimera using only -v flags. It booted with no QE/CI, nor any resolution past 1024x768x32. :/ However, the machine did pickup my Intel HD Graphics via EFI. There was a Background noise coming from the mic, due to VoodooHDA set mic gain to 90%. A quick fix to the VoodooHDA Info.Plist <igain> from 90 to 0 then repair permissions/restart fixed that problem. I installed Voodoo Battery, to get the battery meter working properly and that is fine. This is as far as I got. So Basically this is what I have working/not working: Power Management: Working. Used SMC Monitor, and Temps are 45-60c. CPU Frequencies are from 900-2000Mhz. Sleep: Not working. Any advice? Ethernet: Not working. Any Advice? Wireless: Working, Swapped Intel card with Dell 1510 Half Height Mini PCI Card for native AirPort Wireless. Bluetooth: Working, Added Rocketfish RF-MRBTAD USB Adapter, Had to modify kext to get Wake From Sleep. Video: Not Working, detects Built In Intel HD GPU, but not for the Geforce 310M. No QE/CI or Custom Res. Advice? Audio: Working, with VoodooHDA and patch for iGain. Trackpad: Working, Used driver from: www.kexts.com/view/1448-trackpad+keyboard_ps2_32-64.html and be sure to remove any VoodooPS2 kexts before installing! Battery: Working, Battery Meter visible via Voodoo Battery. Webcam: Working on Lion Retail. USB: Working, Via DSDT. DVD Drive: Working, and proper Burn support OOB. Any help on getting any of the non-working sections working would be extremely awesome. (And welcome!) If you have any questions for me or if you need my DSDT, boot.plist or anything, just let me know. Just thought I share this with the community, because getting Snow Leopard on my Sammy would not be possible without your help! Thank you in advance! Edit #2 : Upgraded to Lion Retail. I did everything you said and I already had the Generate P and C states on the boot.plist. I then ran that command in terminal then restarted. I think It still gets hot and still fires up full speed. gotmilk70 Posted July 28, 2011 Author Share Posted July 28, 2011 Thank you MaLdOn! Speedstep is working properly! Sleep does not work. I click sleep for the apple menu, and the mouse stops moving. The screen is still lit and working. When I click on the mouse, it works again. But the laptop does not go to sleep. My laptop now has 3 hours and 30 minutes battery life Vs 2 hours and 30 mins before this update. I can care less if I get ethernet working, I have wireless working perfectly. I don't expect video to be fixed anytime soon, unless some smart person or team patches it also. (Crossing my fingers.) Any advice? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
repat Posted July 31, 2011 Share Posted July 31, 2011 Hello, I recently picked up a QX410 from Woot! and am interested in installing OS X on it. This will be my first foray into OSx86 on a laptop. I have previously built a desktop successfully, although still consider myself a OS X noob. I was wondering if there was any luck getting the ethernet to work yet? I have not yet replaced the wireless card , so was hoping for a wired connection. I appreciate the OP, but am not familiar with all the lingo and location of said files, kernel, etc. Any words of advice on installation would be appreciated. I would like to, but I have wireless working just fine, so it is not a major problem for me. I would like to help you as far as the install, but I would like to know how much you know about installing Mac OS X onto laptops. If you need a tutorial, that's fine. I just need to know how detailed you need the tutorial to be. Also, does anyone else have any input as to how I can repair the sleep function in Lion 10.7.0?
