NurkJon Posted July 4, 2011 Share Posted July 4, 2011 I want to modify my Power Mac G5 rear I/O panel to use with my G5 mod as I want to keep my case stock looking from the outside and I think I know how I should go about in doing this but there might be something I've missed and there's probably other people here who've done the same thing. I looked through that thread quite a bit but there seemed to be a lot of old pictures that were missing and such when people had done it some time ago so I couldn't get a clear view of how to do it and that's why I decided to create a thread asking for help. TBH mate, theres a number of ways to go about it. 1. Cut the back open, add a mobo tray. 2. Cut a small hole for the mobo ports 3. use tiny extension cables with pci slots screwed in place correctly 4. use normal length extension cables with mobo nearer front of case 5. se no extension cables but with mobo in middle of case. In order of difficulty, its probably 5 2 4 1 3 All the methods are detailed on the first 2 pages of threads in the section. I think you misunderstood my question, I want to use the ports on the original G5 Logicboard by cutting of that piece of PCB but I'm looking for pinout and tips on how to do it the best way and common errors. I have tried pinning the firewire and ethernet but no luck. The ethernet pins MAY work with more fiddling, which I didn't have the time to do. I talked with another guy who said that the ethernet will not work with significant work as Apple use some sort of 5vdc magnetics in there, I didn't really understand exactly what he meant but his conclusion were to just ditch it and replace it with a keystone.
