Hi,

has anyone successfully installed the 10.7 Lion GM on a modified Cartri BIOS for the Gigabyte motherboards?

if so, is the "Extra" folder just copied from a snow leopard install?

and is DSDT really needed? its not needed on a Snow installation.

thanks for your replies

Asher

apparently you didnt search at all. in the osx lion install forum which you posted there is a guide by mald0n, which includes everything you need. you dont need a DSDT most likely.

it may or maynot work jsut try it

No, it's not. I also have a cartri bios and I don't need a DSDT.

I've installed Lion (since DP3 to GM) without any problems at all.

All I did was installing it with the latest Chameleon. For network I used the Lnx2Mac's Realtek driver (see: http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/p/realtekrtl81...sx-driver.html).

I'm not using onboard sound, so I don't use any next for it (I'm using an old Audigy2).

I've got a Geforce GTX275 so I'm booting with "Graphics Enabler=y" in the boot.plist.

That's about it. :dance_24:

Which installation method/guide are you following (maldOn? Tseug?)?

If I am understanding your success, just install (following whichever guide you did), then copy com.apple.Boot.plist and my Extra folder from my current SL Hackinstosh installation. Correct?

I used the Mald0n method.

In fact, I didn't copy my extra folder from SL. Since I don't use sleep (it resets CMOS on Lion and I haven't tried any on the solutions posted around here - even 'though it works okay in SL) I only have FakeSMC installed with the temperature plug-ins.

All I did was add the next for the Realtek NIC and modify the boot.plist for the graphics ^_^

ok got it all to work!!

here's what i did...

installed using mald0n's method (sticky post).

I'm using a cartri modified BIOS (GA-EP45T-UD3R)

1. for network i copied over from my SL install "S/L/E/IONetworkingFamily.kext" to same location on Lion (i have a Realtek 8111C)

2. for sound i installed voodoo HDA (i have ALC 889a)

3. for graphics - this is weird but it worked.. (i have a Nvidia GT9400 1024MB) i set GraphicsEnabler=Yes in boot loader and also i needed a DSDT.aml in my /E/E so "DSDT auto patcher" didn't work for some reason but on that same page there's a "HDEF Gigabyte" patcher - which is for sound, but i took the DSDT that it generated, put it in /E/E and viola - full screen detection. full resolution (pretty sure QE/CI is enabled too...looks great!)

thats it..

Thanks everybody !

Do you mean your Fresh OS X Lion USB installer doesn't boot? I've got a EP45-UD3R with Cartri Bios v0.8 but I can't boot from USB anymore. Thought "Well okay someting wrong with stick!" so did Mald0n's procedure again on different stick. Same problem; my system won't go through POST. It sticks in first screen with initializing of Memory.

Formatted one of the OS X Lion sticks with Disk-Utility and inserted it; System POSTs; It most be something with the files/ procedure/ Chameleon bootloader. By the way removed P- and C-state entries in boot.plist in /Extra. Cartri-bios don't need them right?!

EDIT;

It's the Chameleon bootloader. I asume version r1003 is used. I've manually updated install method from Tseug (very easy) to Chameleon RC5 VS r1135 in CLI and USB-stick boots fine. I'm installing Lion as we speak on test-partition. Had to add EFI-string of my 8800GTS and GraphicsEnabler=No to get it working; that's been a while :D

Be aware this version of chameleon changes com.apple.Boot.plist to org.chameleon.Boot.plist.

EP45-UD3P + Cartri .8 bios.

Everything but sleep works. Resets bios :( Found AppleRTC,kext fix now sleep works great :)

Used audio kext from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=262015 for sound.

Otherwise same kext from 10.6.7

Had to add pciroot set to 1 in plist for graphics card to work.

Needed latest build of chameleon .1135 or newer for usb stick to boot.

So I want to take the plunge and update my EP45T-US3P + Carti .8 Bios to Lion (Roar!)

So far I’ve created my Lion USB and have installed Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1135 on it as advised.

Looking through the pdf that Cartri had supplied with the 0.8 bios, it stated that to make your system boot without using the DSDT.aml, select your mac partition, type “DSDT=cartri”, and press enter. Alternatively, you could use the “bc” compilation of the Chameleon, which was the latest chameleon bootloader (at the time) specific for Mac Bios v 0.8.

So my question is can/should I add the following to my org.chameleon.Boot.plist to eliminate the need for a DSDT.aml?

<key>DSDT</key>

<string>cartri<string>

PS. I looked at the read me for Chameleon 2.0-RC5(bc17) that he had created for the 0.8 bios and the following are some of the changes that he had baked in:

- PCiRoot defaults to 1.

- GraphicsEnabler is enabled

- Timeout default changed to 3.

So I added the same parameters to my org.chameleon.Boot.plist.

If you have no DSDT.aml file in your extra folder then you have no need to specify which DSDT to use. You only had to use DSDT=cartri on your first boot to make sure you didn't do anything wrong then you were supposed to delete the DSDT.aml file and stop using DSDT=cartri.

The version of Chameleon I'm using to boot into Lion still uses com.apple.boot.plist not org.chameleon.boot.plist and I needed to add pciroot set to 1 in my plist. I think I'll try a newer chameleon and see if it is still needed or not with my graphics card.

Since this is a topic for the installation of 10.7 Lion on a system with the Cartri v0.8 BIOS, I would like to have a few particulars clarified by those with successful installations on this platform.

My Installation is on a GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 motherboard flashed with the Cartri v0.8 BIOS, installed from scratch with the Black OS installation CD. I use on-board sound and the TrendNet PCI Ethernet card and need no kexts for that except the LegacyHDA.kext to enable the use of the motherboard's 889a sound chip instead of a 885.

1. Is the Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1135 just used on the USB stick for installation or is it then applied to the upgraded 10.6.8 Snow Leopard drive after installation because it is needed to allow Lion to boot on it's own?

2. Can we still run with only the necessary kexts in the /Extra/Extensions folder or do we then have to place custom kexts in the /System/Library/Extensions folder that may break the system on subsequent 10.7 updates? (the beauty of the Cartri system kept that from happening up until the 10.6.8 update of which I lost only sound and only had to replace the AppleHDA.kext file to get it back)

3. If Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1135 is necessary for rebooting, can it me modified or customized to respect the system used by the Cartri v0.8 BIOS rather a step backwards using many third-party kexts with the possibility of things breaking after most OS updates?

Thanks to any and all who may answers to the above questions.

My Installation is on a GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 motherboard flashed with the Cartri v0.8 BIOS and my extra folder is exactly the same as in SL. Except one change I had to put pciroot set to 1 in my plist to get my 9500gt to work properly. Same sound fix you used in 10.6.8 needs to be done for 10.7

I also had to patch AppleRTC.kext to stop the bios from resetting its self on wake. See this topic

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...3992&st=320

Just paste the code from post #340 into terminal and your done.

You have to boot using a lion friendly version like Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1135, I don't know what or if it breaks any to the features of the Cartri bios someone like BlackOSX who worked on the cartri friendly Chameleon version that we were using would have to figure that out. I haven't found anything wrong using the newer Chameleon everything that worked in SL is working in Lion.

I didn't get my copy of Lion from Apple ( got it in the usegroups ) I've tried to buy from the Apple store with 10.6.8 and the cartri bios but I get a message that Lion won't install on this computer and it won't sell it to me.

Anyone please post if you can buy Lion from the app store using computer with Cartri .8 bios.

Thanks so much for the quick reply and information. This gives me a better understanding of what has to be done on an exact system as mine. One exception of which I don't believe will make a difference, I'm using a 9800GTX+ video card and you are using a 9500 so I'll probably have to make the same change. I believe that the "pciroot set to 1" was part of the Cartri customization but I'm not completely sure.

Thanks again.

Referencing the 2 quotes above of which I took the liberty to high-lite my interestes and needs, I'm looking all over this board for your exact build of Chameleon, specifically, Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1135. I'm finding everything else. I've looked at all of the recommended installs and their revision numbers are different.

Can you please tell me where it came from so that I may download it?

To tell you the truth I haven't a clue where I got it but I've tried several newer builds without problem.

You can get the latest from this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=231075 or I've been using r1200 from kext dot com without issue for a week or so. I have the installer for r1135 still but my build is in pieces right now using the case to setup and test a new setup for my main computer, Sandy Bridge time ;)

Gigabyte z68xp-ud4 with I5 2500k 8gig of Patriot memory. 4GHz on stock cooling as a starting point good bye Q6600 you've been good to me 3.2 GHz from day one never a worry.

RocketLynx, no it did not so I decided to take break for a while from trying to install Lion. That's why I have not replied to your post. I have not checked out checked out this thread for a while.

How about you, have you had any luck? I saw your post about Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1200. I think I'm going to give that a shot next week.

 • 4 months later...

you are all talking about problems when the hack wakes up again,

im not even getting it to sleep ....

i am using a gigabyte ep45 ud3l rev. 1.0 with a cartri bios (which worked perfect on snow leo - even sleep)

i installed lion through a ##### boot stick with the app store download

changes to the installation i've done:

- chimera installation

- no Extensions folder in Extra (only boot plist with PCIRootUID=1, darkwake=0 npci=0x2000 and Generate States)

- atherosfix.kext for enabling my wifi

- fakesmc, ioblockstorageinjector, AHCI3rdPartySATA, JMicron36xATA

- and I'm using the iousbfamily and iousbmassstorageclass kexts from 10.6.8 - now my bt-dongle gets detected right

(i get the controllers will be unloaded across sleep message on -v boot, don't know if its important)

when i put the hack to sleep from the apple menu,

it shuts down the hdds (I'm hearing it), then the graphics card fans get noisy,

then the display instantly reverts to a {censored}ed up frozen login screen or it just stays black,

anybody ideas?

i already tried sleep enabler, does not work for me,

and i already have the apple-rtc patch applied (also tried it with the applertc next from snow leo, does not work too)
