Questions about Bluetooth and Timemachine on 10.7

Well, the 10.7 installation went fine. I have WIFI (arch=i386), sound and stuff like that. Only a few problems though.

I want Lion to use the applications and files from my Time Machine backup, with all the settings from Snow Leopard. Is this possible to do? Or is this not possible? I thought that you could do this on the setup screen, but I choose 'to do it later'. Now I can't find it anywhere ;)

Also, I have some problems with my USB Bluetooth Dongle. Worked perfect in Snow Leopard, but now it sucks on Lion. The Magic Mouse will be detected, but can't connect. Sometimes it connects for 30 seconds, then it disconnects etc. My Trackpad isn't even recognized anymore. Anyone else has this problem?

Well, figured it out. I used Migration Assistant, but the result is that Lion isn't working when I use it. Endless spinning circle on the bootscreen. Doesn't matter, time to start over I guess.

Also, I figured that Bluetooth has problems on Lion, so i ordered a Belkin unit which is supposed to work on Lion.

So far I love Lion. Installation went very well on my system if you compare it to some other members :thumbsup_anim:

I think I have the same problem with my Edimax Bluetooth. When the OS Boots somewhere is writing that the bluetooth trackpad failed to connect and the only way to connect it is to delete it from the bluetooth devices, switch it off, switch it on and connect again. I hope I can find where is the problem because it worked flawless on SL.

I have a similar issue with my cirago CSR based bluetooth dongle that worked fine in leopard and snow leopard but in Lion, my trackpad disconnects after 30 seconds and my apple wireless keyboard does the same so I'll most likely get a new BT dongle myself also as it's holding me back from using Lion since I have everything else working minus sleep.

@Dannydeman

I'm going to try tonight to see if rolling back the snow leo drivers has any better results. Do post back and let me konw how the belkin dongle works out as I might buy one for myself if it works in Lion.

Guess, everyone is worried about Bluetooth dongles and paired devices.

Is anyone else facing trouble over having Migration Assitant or using Time Machine backup restored to Lion 10.7 GM fresh install and NOT being able to USE the OS?

I was just about to have a Second installation go of Lion on a different partition with the idea to have it as my main OS (after having 10.6 as main OS for more than 2 years now, & NOT WinBlows!).

If not being able to use Time Machine backup transferred to Lion /Users, or Applications, that would be totally meaningless as of now to go about installing every tiny little thing to perfection...

Hear, Anyone? Having success at transfer of active older Snow Leopard's /User/ accounts?

i did migration from 10.6 and still can't figure out some problems, if they occurred because it still a developer preview or because the mirigration.

some apps, just crash from the start, but f i have the option to set them to 32/64 bit they may work on the other option. (if was 64, will work only on 32, and vice versa).

so far the system is awesome but there are still some bugs i hope will fixed before lion will come out.

@Noam AA & @antaeus.

I don't care about applications. They can be re-installed. In my opinion, re-installing apps on a fresh install, especially a new OS makes more sense.

Therefore, what I am asking is with those who have gone from Lion DP1-DP4, or even used to transfer SL 10.6.x USER data to Lion OS /Users list. Have these people faced any problems or not been able to TRANSFER the data at all!?!?!?

PS: This is because, it makes no sense keeping two OS's if you install a final version of the latest, and that which is better than the last.

@ Freaky Chokra

I've faced no issues from this Lion build since from the DP1 days right up until the GM that I'm typing this post on right now and I suspected nothing would be the issue but I'm wondering if I might run into any issues when I upgrade my snow leo main OS to Lion because transition between versions like that are bound to have small problems here and there but I'll wait a bit until the final release of Lion before I do my main OS over and for the bugs to be worked out and whatnot.

Regarding Bluetooth I have a Logitech Bluetooth USB dongle from an old mouse and it has a sync button on it. I'm not sure if this helps anyone but if I plug it in it won't work but if I hold the sync buton down as I plug it in Bluetooth pops up in the preferences and I can sync the keyboard and track pad

Hey, GITS's LM... :P

Finally, the twain meet after a long time.

I do agree with your:

In my opinion, OS chinks are always predictable. Data loss isn't a romantic affair. ;)

I just don't wanna either screw up a good Lion install, or (a big OR), when I switch from SL 10.6.8 to Lion 10.7, I typically would get rid of the older (why simply waste space). In this scenario, I don't want any of my running data such as iPhone Sync backup, iTunes registration/login to my iPhone account, Mail folders, Safari,Ffox, 1Password, iStat Menus config, etc... kind of daily use apps saved data...

So, just that; nothing else. Apps I always prefer fresh install. In a way, gets rid of the junk clutter grow/left behind over time... ;)

Lol sup FC 8)

I want to do the same myself but I typically wait for a system update like 10.7.1 before I actually upgrade my main system over but I do know what you mean by not wanting to keep two OS's live and truthfully the transition to 10.7 has been the smoothest to date. And I'm ever so tempted to just update it because it has things like my iPhone backups, my keychain info, and other things that make me boot up snow leo from time to time to get.

On the topic though I do need to get me a spare HDD to use as a time machine backup although the recovery partition sorta defeats the purpose a little you can never be too safe ya know.

And I received my belkin BT dongle and it works perfect just like others have said. No more having to repair my  KB and it works in chameleon too at boot so that's another plus.

If not yet, try the 10.6.7 kexts. I replaced mine and now bt works.

hey sorry for late replay, for now it seems updated apps no longer crash, (most of them got updated)

so migration run perfect for user data, preferences, and most application (some apps needed moving their preferences file to the "/library" from "~/library").

and for bluetooth, i just received all the things for true apple bluetooth (bluetooth from macbook, 5.5v-3v DC-DC and usb cable) and i also have wake from sleep with magic mouse, AND i can control BIOS with my apple wireless keyboard  (though i still can't enter to it LOL, have no DEL key, but still if some problem occurred with the bios i need to press F1, and that's i have :) )

I have the Targus ACB10US USB Bluetooth dongle. It worked fine in SL, but I had some issues in Lion when connecting the USB dongle directly to my Hackintosh. However, when I connect it through a USB hub, it works like a charm. If you have one of those lying around, try it out!
