I have not seen any guides for this laptop, so I was wondering if it is possible to put OSX on it... mayhemm88 Posted July 8, 2011 Author Share Posted July 8, 2011 From what I've been reading, it looks possible because people have gotten working installs of OSX on the ThinkPad T420, which has pretty much the same hardware as the E6520, barring the NVidia Discrete Graphics. I would also probably need to grab a DW1510 to get wireless working, but it may be worth a shot once Lion comes out. I tried to get this to work myself last night. Both with SL and lion. I could not install either if them because of kernel panics. I guess I'm missing a bootflag or something. If you don't mind me asking, are you doing this with Lion or Snow Leopard? and what graphics chip do you have, the onboard Intel 3000 or the discrete NVidia NVS 4200? What I have now is a working laptop in Lion but its not 100% perfect yet. The video works (with GraphicsEnabler=yes) but remains "unknown" inside the OS (I have full resolution and access to all screen savers). Bluetooth worked out of the box. Wireless is completely undetected. Webcam works without modification. Audio works with Voodoo audio but all volume levels are the same level (audio on the highest setting is just as loud as one-notch above mute although that volume level is acceptable and neither blasts the room nor is too quiet to hear). Keyboard works including the separate volume keys. Trackpad works including "tap to click" but no other trackpad gestures are available and Lion sees it as a mouse. To get keyboard and trackpad working, I used the latest "PS2 Keyboard/trackpad" extensions recently posted to our favorite kexts site. You'll still need a USB keyboard and mouse, though, to get past the installation as they WORK with the installer and the first-time configuration wizards but the OS thinks you don't have either. You need to plug in the external ones to get through the "please connect a keyboard" etc. screens and then you can unplug them and continue to use the internal kb/trackpad. Once you're done installing the OS, you can go into the bluetooth settings and turn off the advanced option of prompting for a keyboard/mouse. I'm using the MacBookPro 8.1 SMBIOS settings. Ethernet works with the Intel driver from [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]. Voodoo Battery get's the battery recognized and gives you the two different power settings and battery display on the menu bar. Not working at all: wifi, sleep. I am in the process of updating the kexts now. I will let you know how it goes. so far CPU is recognized out of the box. Nvidia card is recognized as an Nvidia card, but an unknown one. a custom GPU string in boot.plist should fix this though. I built some code to get the graphics identified and working via the com.apple.Boot.plist (or, preferably, the org.chameleon.Boot.plist with the latest Chameleon 1163 as of this writing). Make sure Optimus graphics are turned off in the BIOS. I also have SpeedStep disabled although on this notebook, I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference (its a huge difference on my desktop SandyBridge). Now it boots fine every time with full (as far as I can tell) Nvidia support and without any extra graphics kexts/injectors. My benchmarks are as follows: Geekbench: 7623 Cinebench OpenGL: 13.82 fps Cinebench CPU: 4.08 pts Everything seems to work but sleep and wifi. I'm frustrated because this model has the Dell 1530 wifi and I thought I'd be able to get that to work but haven't had any luck. Sleep essentially means that this isn't much of a notebook since I can't close the lid or save power. The trackpad also doesn't support the gestures and is highly sensitive (as I write this on the notebook, the cursor has moved several times to the middle of the text because I grazed or got "near" the trackpad while typing... very annoying). If you mean the 1510, I rebranded one of those a few months ago so that it appeared to MacOS as an Apple card. I used the instructions here. I was using the guide which worked great on my D620 but on the E6520, I'm getting the boot0: error... I've tried everything I could find on the internet. littledragon Posted August 9, 2011 Share Posted August 9, 2011 I spent all weekend and I can't get any boot loader onto the HD... maybe it's one of those drives that Chameleon doesn't like... it's a 500gb Scorpio Black. I'm going to try another drive and see what happens. I've already tried [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], champlist doesn't seem to want to run, chimera gives the same error... too bad this laptop can't boot off the SD card..
