dolan Posted June 30, 2011 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Together with my G5 case, zamyykoo's Rear I/O, Gus.Carrie's front I/O, and my newly bought motherboard tray, I shall begin my modding, however... it turns out the motherboard tray is slightly too big to fit inside the case. I would have to use the top shelf for it to fit, which means taking out the CD drive and hard drive compartments, which I don't want to do! What should I do? Cut the motherboard tray to a smaller size? And also... how would I mount the motherboard tray to the case? Surely drilling holes will make the screws come out on the other side of the case lol... If you have back panel IO, just break off the standoffs from inside the case and use some epoxy to glue them in the right place. Then just fix the rear IO in place and youre sorted... What I mean by Rear I/O is that thing zammykoo made so I don't have to cut my case into peices I'm making a no cut build basically epoxy, oh i see, that is the key? How about the fact that the motherboard tray does not fit? Must I cut that up? My point is you dont need a mobo tray at all. Mobo tray is generally for people who do cut the back. If you have the zammykoo part, then theres no need to cut the back, and no need for a mobo tray. Or am I wrong? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
zammykoo Posted July 3, 2011 Share Posted July 3, 2011 Dolan, good to see you are starting on your mod @rorydaredking You can go either ways on this project. The mobo tray just allows you to use the existing standoffs WITHOUT having to snap them off and reposition/glue. You drill new holes into the mobo tray and then screw it into the case standoffs. Then mount the mobo onto the tray as intended. This is what I did for my own mod. You can do it without the tray, which some can vouch is a better way because it cuts down on weight and saves space. If you are wanting to place the mobo as far back against the rear, so that you can access the pci cards through the back, you may have to fiddle around with the IO unit to fit between the mobo and the case rear. There is not a lot of space to work with, but I've seen some do it with the sawed off g5 logic board. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
