acevic
Following, are the specs for the laptop I wish to install OSX on. Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2410 @ 2.00 GHZ Codename Merom Mainboard: Intel GM965 Memory: 2x1024 MB DDR2 Graphics: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (384 MB) I have tried looking up my hardware on every HCL and searching on the forums, but to no effective avail. I need to know whether it is possible to run OSX on this machine. If so, which version would you recommend?

I need to know whether it is possible to run OSX on this machine. If so, which version would you recommend? Snow Leopard ( 10.6.x ) is a bit heavy for that machine and I really dont know if the cpu is supported out of the box, you might be better served with Leopard ( 10.5.x ), it uses fewer ressources and runs on older Intel cpus. 10.7 ( Lion ) will not work because it demands a 64bit Core2Duo minimum . You can use Apple retail discs from the store. Together with a boot cd that "helps" booting on non-Apple Hardware. Once installed you only need fakesmc.kext which makes OSX think that your machine is Apple Mac Model XYZ and a bootloader ( "chameleon" ). There are individual files, kext you can search here in the forum or use all-in-one-solution packs like "myhack" or "#####". they all let you install your kexts ( drivers ) once OSX is on the Harddisk. I googled the specs for your CPU : It's a CORE DUO, but not a CORE2DUO ( maximum Snow Leo ) . Yours can do MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, Intel 64, EIST, XD-Bit Therefore OSX should work without a problem ( SSE3 is the most important feature ). The chipset is Intel Standard, should be supported natively in OSX. Graphics you must lookup yourself here. But Apple uses a lot of Intel GMA cards in their older macBooks and so OSX has general support for MOST, not all GMAs.
