I am sorry for posting this but after spending a good 7 hours reading everything that I could on this site and on the wiki and through google, I am no closer to getting my answer then I was 7 hours ago. I want to dual boot Windows XP Pro and Apple Mac OS X 10.4.7. I got the 10.4.6 JaS version and installed that first and then I installed Windows XP Pro. I then tried the chain0 method with just copying the chain0 file and such, and that didn't work. Then I tried making it via the 'debug' mode in cmd and that didn't work. Both times I have the option to choose Windows or OS X and when I choose OS X it just brings me back to that menu. =( I can boot off the Hiren's Boot CD 7.8 and use the boot magic there to chage what drive I want to make primary, but that not only takes a long time, but kind of defeats the purpose of a dual boot, when I have to boot like 4 times to get the os I want. =/ Everything I have read so far says to install Windows XP first, then to install OS X. I would do that, but I have already installed them both about 5 times each this weekend and am sort of sick of losing 2 hours or so each time. I finally got my XP to have all the drivers I need, and OS X to have the basic programs that I like, so I really don't want to start over. I also installed the 10.4.7 JaS update that I got off of TPB. Not sure if that will help at all, but i thought you might want to know. =P System: CPU: P4 2.4Ghz SSE2 Memory: 1024MB DDR HDD: 200GB WD (186GB formated, 2 partitions - XP = 96GB ... OS X = 90GB) Video: ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro 64MB (can't remember if it if DDR or not) Motherboard: Soyo SY-P4I865PE Plus Dragon 2 v1.0 If I have forgotten anything, let me know and I will reply asap with the required information. Thanks! *UPDATE* I tried a few other things, like trying to install LILO and I tried a few programs on Hiren's Boot CD. I also tried cfdisk and got an error about my partitions being messed. One of the programs on the Boot CD said that my partitions weren't on the proper heads. like one was on head 167 or something like that and it said it should be on head 0. So, tomorrow I might be just reformatting and then reinstalling everything from scratch, starting with windows. (>.<) There goes a whole weekend out the door. If I understand correctly if you use the chain0 method it asks you to choose between "XP and OSX" but if you select OSX it takes you back to the same screen? Are you sure it's the same screen or another that looks similar? As I’m thinking that is darwins boot loader and not windows. One option could be to make OSX your primary partition. There are several ways of doing this but the way I do it is by going into Windows >> right click My Computer >> click Manage >> click Disk Management Then right click the OSX partition and select "Mark Partition as Active". ------------------- For any reason if the above method doesn't work to make the OSX partition active then you can also use this method to do so: Open Run Type "diskpart" (without quotes) Type "list disk" Type "select disk x" (x being the disk with OSX installed. if you only have one hard drive then this will be x=0) Type "list part" Type "select part y" (y being the partition with OSX installed. Use partition size to help identify. Most likely y=1) Type "active" ----------------- Then reboot. Now you should see that Darwin (the OSX boot loader) is asking you to choose between OSX and Windows. mifki Posted August 29, 2006 Share Posted August 29, 2006 I installed OS X first then XP, just install Xp on a new parttion (be sure to maek it wen u install OS X, make it the first partiton and OS X the second one) then once XP is installed get fdisk and make the OS X partion active. then you shoudl be able to dual boot Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
zedzed Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 The easiest way to dual boot is to go into BIOS and select which HD to boot to. Have one HD for Mac OSX and one for Windows. I think that the basic problem here is the fact the XP installation is not in the first physical partition. The boot hooks for a Windows 2K/XP/Vista installation must be in the first physical partition on the disk. It doesn't matter in which order you install Windows XP or OS X, as long as XP gets to reside the the first physical partition. If you were to use DOS FDISK or Linux FDISK, or whatever to partition, make sure that Windows is installed in the first partition. Once you do that, you could use the CHAIN0 file + Boot.ini to create a hook for the OS X partition (the second phisycal partition). Alternately you could make the second partition active, and assuming you have OS X installed in there, it will by default boot darwin/OS X, unless you hit F8 and bring up darwin's boot menu to get access to XP. But, at the time I had my partitions set up like this: ( Windows XP | OSx86 ) and I had installed OSx86 on the second partition FIRST, and then installed XP on the first partition SECOND. (o.0) But, the problem I am having now os that I can't get XP to recognize ANY partitions on the HDD at all ... or that it is bigger then 126GB. =( Not sure what I have to do, but this sucks bigtime! - Dustin Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It is when i am trying to install XP. It just sees 1 partition of 126GB and that is it. the only way for me to see it "normally" i think is to format the whole HDD in FAT-32, then install XP, but doing that will erase my OS X install.
