10.7 CPU-Fan Problem

I might be mistaken but Mac OS X does not have a Fan Control system. So the best way to set it is to go to Bios and set the Smart Fan system I thing. I do not quite remember the name exactly (sorry). There you can set how fast the fan should run. If you set the fan to the 20% for example then the Bios increases the fan speed if the CPU gets hotter and once the CPU gets cooler fan speed goes down to the appointed speed (that 20%).

  • 2 weeks later...

I just had the same problem and fixed it, by reseting the PRAM. instructions below...

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM

1 Shut down the computer.

2 Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

3 Turn on the computer. Wait about 30 seconds.

4 Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

then release the keys.

This only works on real macs and not on hacks. :/

I'm not having that problem. I also am using some kexts (ACPIMonitor/IntelCPUMonitor/SuperIOFamily) to allow me to see the temperature of the CPU/Board in iStat Menus, everything is normal.

can also be the Graphics Cards Fan ..

OSX controls GPU fan by asking Computer which MacModel it is. According to the answer OSX activates power modes for the gnu that the MacModel has inside.

Have a look inside the plist.info of /S/L/E/AppleGraphicSPowermanagement.kext -- you must set via SMBIOS in /Extra the Mac Model to one there in the kext.

For example : I have ATI4650mobility with device id 1002 (ATI ) 9480 ( 46xx family ). The iMac 9,1 and 10,1 have also this family card ( 4670mobility exactly ), so Kext has entry for iMac 9,1 and lists configuration options how OSX should power on/off the card if Mac=iMac9,1 .. ATI 4650/70 has 3 settings - one for idle, one for medium and one for full fan ( videos/3d) -- this setting is only going active if my hack book imitates such an iMac Model.

if I set it to Macbook the card will run at full power all the time, cause Macbook has no ATi card of my family.

hard to explain in non-technical way.

SMBIOS is very essential what works and what not.. YOu need to google which mac has your hardware .. then set Hackintosh to that Model.

smbios.plist is only a textfile, just play with it, but must reboot to see a change. then notice what works and what not.
