Hello thx to insanelymac member tommiedeboy I got my notebook fully working under OSX 10.6.6 and because it took me some work and not everything was so logical thats why I will put up a small guide what I did.

Things you need

A dvd with Hazard OSX 10.6.6i ( find it via Google )

Final_10.6.6_kexts_R2.zip ( see also the link in form http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1655710 )

A clean harddrive without grub on it. I noticed it messed thing up for me, so I advise to use a clean harddrive, but if there no Linux on and you got some partition for OSX left then you can try it, but in my case when I over writed the partion and installed OSX, the boatloader was not installed and that's really a need to get all things working.

The first steps

  1. You will will need to boot the Hazard OSX 10.6.6i dvd with the busratio=20 command ( http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=642 have a look here for the right busratio, however for my i3 330M I used busratio=20 ).
  2. After you will see the first Window in the installation screen, then first go and partition the hard drive via disk utility , I made 30GB for OSX and the rest off my hard drive I formatted separate and called it Media, you can decide yourself how call it and for installing OSX one partition is enough.
  3. After you you have made the partition for OSX then go further and before starting the installation select customize.
  4. In customize menu you should select the boatloader chameleon rc4 I selected, after selecting the bootloader, go to bootloader options and select option, force ForceWake=y on boot ( You will find it, you can't miss it ).Also select thec Kernel ( Legacy kernel ) After that you should select your drivers, the lan driver was a realtek 8111 and the Wifi I needed the Broadcom fix for ( on the dvd to ). After that you still select Atiframebuffer and then we ready for the installation.
  5. After you finished the installation you don't need bootup with busratio anymore. Follow the instructions http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1655710 and place the DSDT files and in Extra folder and the boot file you need place on your root of your OSX drive. First make sure you added the hardware id off the Ati Radeon HD 4570 in the Ati4600controller kext and install the following kext's AppleHDA,IDT kext, Atiframebuffer from the zip file ( new one ) and don't forget to install the Ati4600controller kext to and the FakeSMC kext.
  6. After the reboot you should have fully functional OSX notebook if you did everything good.

There where some more kext's in that zip file, however I don't know which one should be installed still? There is the voodoo kext for the battery I believe? ( Can not check it i'm writing this guide on work pc ) but I got it fully functional, but I don't have the battery icon so I could still look to that.

If you have some qeustions, I will try to answer them to.

This guide is based on following specs:

Dell Studio 1558

Intel I3 330M

Ati Radeon HD 4570

Realtek 8111

Broadcom 43xx

4GB Memory.

I can add some more things later and also perhaps the edited Ati4600controller kext. Good look with your Dell Studio 1558.

It can be your notebook will suddenly shutdown, thats because some off this notebook suffer from cooling issues.

EDIT

I added a edited ATI4600controller.kext that way you guys don't need add the device id and just make sure you added the boot file

ATI4600Controller.kext.zip

Hi Shirosaki, and others.....

The problem with the cooling can be solved when you update to 10.6.7, it runs much smoother.

The battery can be fixed with this kext: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=187041

I'll still trying to get the sleep function to work properly, when you close the lid (laptop display) it does go to sleep but when you open the lid again, the fans and everything works except the display remains black. that's an issue i still want to solve.

btw... I did the install with the original dvd (10.6.3) and this boot cd from nawcom: http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=446

Well actually with the usb version (see the post at nawcom) and the dvd restored to the usb stick.

If anyone has some news about this laptop, please post your solutions to make things even better.
