Folks,

I have successfully installed Lion and I have almost everything working. I use DSDT, /Extra, Chameleon RC5 on my Dell Vostro 1500.

I used VoodooPS2Controller.kext for my keyboard and trackpad to work but I can't use all Lion gestures like advertised.

Little help will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, you won't be able to get them. Only certain Apple laptops with Multitouch trackpads get them. Even older MacBook Pros and MacBooks don't get the gestures.

AnonMac,

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. Hopefully they come out with new PS2 trackpad driver which can do it.

Thanks again.

You'd need a trackpad with multitouch sensors. It's not only a question of creating a driver that supports the gestures.

Hey, I was just wondering what method you used to install DP4 on your vostro 1500. My installation always freezes randomly.

Thanks John.

George,

I used method described here and it is, in my view, the most common method. All of them use same procedure of preparing a USB flash drive with Lion Installer. After that different methods use different bootloaders to boot that flash drive.

I have had same problem of random freeze with my installation. I installed like 100 times haha. Sorry just exaggerating . It seems to have been a problem caused due to OSInstall.mpkg and my Extra folder.

What worked for me is that I formatted my hard drive as HFS+ GUID Partitioned hard drive. Then I got a patched OSInstall.mpkg for above mentioned partitioning scheme i.e. GPT. Now, I did get some boot hangs on Installer but I realized it was my smbios.plist so I got rid of it. Then my install went fine. It did not freeze anymore. So then I installed Chameleon on my newly installed Lion, copied Extra and it worked. Although I had many boot hangs I fixed it by removing smbios.plist and let Chameleon generate one for me.

Also, some kexts in Extra causes problems with Lion. So I tested them one by one and I got my lion to work finally. I use patched DSDT right now with minimal kexts in /Extra.

Let me know if you need files for your Vostro installation.

Hope this helps,

Jay

George,

Here is detailed how-to. I forgot to mention some keypoints which I will do here. (I will attach my hackintosh files to this post later when I get home).

1. Either take a USB flash drive or a partition on your own hard drive.

2. Partition the install flash media using GUID Partition Table and Mac OS Extended(Journaled) i.e. HFS+. Also format your partition where you want to install Lion with HFS+.

3. Open DP4 Install DMG.

4. Use Houdini to show hidden files. (You could use terminal or Show/Hide Files app too)

5. Open BaseSystem.DMG from Lion DP4 Install DMG.

6. Restore your partitioned flash drive with BaseSystem.DMG.

7. Delete /System/Installation/Packages link from flash drive and then open DP4 Install DMG and copy Packages folder to flash drive's /System/Installation.

8. Replace OSInstall.mpkg in /System/Installation/Packages of flash drive with the one Lion's Patched OSInstall.mpkg GPT. This was the KEY part which fixed my random install hangs.

9. Go to /System/Installation/SystemConfiguration and rename Apple80211Monitor.bundle to Apple80211Monitor.bundle_ just to make sure it does not load.

10. Install Chameleon on newly restored flash drive and Add /Extra from your Snow Leopard install. Keep minimum kexts just to install it. Main one is FakeSMC.kext. You can keep smbios.plist if it is correct version for your system. Mine is MackBookPro4,1 config in smbios.plist generated by Chameleon. I used MackBookPro5,1 but it caused hangs after install.

11. Boot using flash drive and you might get boot hang few times (like I did. I managed to get it working using '-v -x' flags. Do try it.) but when installer comes up finally. First thing to do in case of install hangs, you would want to know what went wrong right? For that Open Installer and click on Show All Logs from left top dropdown and leave it open and on top of install window. Resize it if you like for better reading. Install on your partition of hard drive. If you get install hang, note the last log message and let me know.

12. If it works, then you would be asked to restart. At that time restart and go in your Snow Leopard and then install Chameleon on newly installed Lion partition. Copy /Extra and then follow step # 9 to rename Apple80211Monitor.bundle.

13. Try to boot to your Lion install, you might get boot hang many times (like I did). Try changing your kexts in /Extra or your DSDT.aml or com.apple.Boot.plist or your smbios.plist.

14. Once you boot into it, you will setup your account and voila you are in! Your wifi should work like mine did (due to Apple80211Monitor.bundle name change).

15. I am sorry for not replying with detailed guide earlier. I got a lot on my plate right now haha. Also I am not with my hackintosh right now. I will send you the files like /Extra etc. from my hackintosh as soon as I get home in the evening. So that you might not have to deal with some of the stuff I mentioned earlier about correcting /Extra.

Hopefully you will enjoy your Lion soon enough! I wish you good luck.

Jay
