What network cards work?

Ok, I've read this topic and searched for everything "HP" in it.

I've got a HP DV1440 US (HP DV1000 series) notebook with the Intel 2200 chip. I'm ready to swap it out tomorrow, but I want to make sure I get a card that my BIOS will load (not be blocked by HP!) and will work under OS X. Everywhere I am reading I find troubles with HP specifically because of the BIOS whitelisting of specific cards.

I'm running JaS 10.4.6 --> update JaS 10.4.7.

Thanks, and if this post makes a lot of people mad because I do not actually have a working chip, PM me and I'll delete it right away. I'm sorry in advance if I messed up! :-/

Confirmation:

On HP Pavilion dv1000 series notebook PC, HP/Broadcomm BCM94306 Rev. 4 Mini-PCI card works, with OS X 10.4.6 including installation of JaS support for Wireless devices. Worked flawlessly, no hacking necessary, network icon appeared automatically. This is mildly significant as anybody with an HP notebook knows that most cards are blocked by HP BIOS.

i just bought a GIGAFAST WF748-CUI USB wireless a/b adapter from geeks.com for $15.95. it's a Zydas ZD1211revB chipset so it uses the ZD1215Mac.kext.

it works with the Zydas 4.5.7.0 drivers from here. it's subject to their normal "unplug it before you shut down or you have to uninstall/reinstall the software" bug, let's hope they fix that.

i'm running 10.4.6 on a thinkpad t43p.

My Intel Pro/100 works perfectly. OSX thinks it's "Built-in Ethernet." Hah!

Onboard Intel CSA (8xx series chipsets, especially 865/875 series with ICH5/5R/5SR southbridges) in both 10/100 and 10/100/1000 variations is detected/works when enabled. Uses PRO/100 (10/100) or PRO/1000CT (10/100/1000) drivers in Windows. Surprisingly, it's usually picked up on the fly by OS X as *built-in Ethernet*.

I have a Broadcom 5788 (169c) working as of right now, I am writing to you using firefox on my Fujitsu Hackintosh.

All I did was downloaded the bcm5701ethernet.kext available on this forum, set permissions so I could edit the file, added an entry for my device in the info.plist for the kext, and then used hexedit to replace each entry of 66 81 FA 59 16 with 66 81 FA 9c 16. Then I changed hex address 37554 of the exec inside the kext to EB 71. Then, I repaired permissions with disk utility, and rebooted. I have dhcp working and I couldnt be happier. The directions came from Hater, ual808, and others in the bcm570x thread.

My builtin bc44 will not work for some reason. It is detected and picks up the IP address from my router but that is about it. Network Utility shows the link speed at 0 but shows the link status as active. Even setting it to full dupex 100baseTX manually does not work.

Got a Realtek 8139 from local computer shop for $6.00 works great. It is stange that the bc44 did not work though works fine in Gentoo. Oh well just disabled it in bios and used the 8139.

I scanned most of the pages about Network cards in the forum - what is almost never mentioned is the SPEED of wireless Network adapters - I need one (USB, PCMCIA or miniPCI Express) which delivers up to 108 Mbps (NOT 54 Mbps).

Can someone please post some names of hackintosh compatible WiFi cards which offer 108 Mbps in here?

Thanks,

Bugs.

ROFL, my Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (on board) WORKS! :thumbsdown_anim: Though, I have to drag my computer all the way downstairs to the router to get it to work... I need my Wireless to work... if only D-Link DWL-G120 was supported =P

I've only used this on 10.4.3 and 10.4.5

Realtek RTL8110S-32 (onboard GigaLAN of ECS i915P-A) is working as 100TX-lan but since its a PCI-controller it won't reach full potential anyway so doesn't bother me anyway. Can set it to GigaLAN in preferences but doesn't seem to improve transfer rates.

I have a Broadcom 440x on my Inspiron 9300, and it does work but not all the time. It'll work 1 out of 5 times, I don't know why it'll only work sometimes and not all the time.

How do I find out if the kext loaded correctly and how to reinitialize the hardware from inside Mac OSX?

Using Jas 10.4.7 install.

I also have an Intel 2200BG wireless nic, but I've been following the other threads for that.

I've been able to get it working as long as I disconnect the network cable before the laptop is turned on. Once Mac OSX is loaded I reconnect the cable and I have internet access now. I've been able to duplicate this a few times with 100% success, but if I left the network cable hooked up when I would boot into OSX after restarting from Windows I would run into the problem again.

AppleBCM440XEthernet is loaded in all instances but it's like it jams when the network cable is left in during boot up.

Here's a boot-up log of when I had the cable disconnected.
