Mac-OS-X-10.7-Lion-300x300.jpgThe guys over at TUAW, who don't normally play the rumormill game, claim they have reliable sources indicating that Mac OS X 10.7 (aka Lion) has been released for internal testing within Apple.

This means we may see Mac OS X Lion announced and made available as early as the WWDC conference which runs from the 6th-10th of June.

We look forward to getting our hands on the real thing and seeing how well the final version plays ball with non-Apple hardware. If you haven't already, check out our dedicated OSx86 Installation Mac OS X Lion and Post-Installation Mac OS X Lion forums.

If I get an mac computer on 5th may (I won't have the opportunity to wait more) I'll be granted a free upgrade to Lion or I'll need to buy it if it is released during the WWDC?

Goodness, I must have really missed something? After 3 months or whatever since DP1, I would have thought representing it as anything more than a service pack would be verging on fraud.

That is normal for OS X. Every new release is an evolutionary step compared to the previous one. That is why, including the upcoming Lion, there have been 8 releases since 2001.

By comparison Windows has had only 3 releases in the same time span, which could be regarded as 2, considering that Vista wasn't even a release, for many.

Take a pick, MS or Apple. Ms is paranoid about people stealing their Windows because they sell the Ultimate Version for $200+. Apple is absolutely narcissistic and so apathetic about other PC modders. The releases of different builds of Lion DPs reflect their attempts to build drivers for all existing and upcoming cards for their lineup. Give Apple another 5 years to consolidate their empire and I will hate them as much as I once hated MS. I don't hate MS as much nowadays since they are in the dog house. But companies should learn to guard their behavior. The recent Sony's reaction to GeoHot's harmless hack put them in the slaughter house.

Long Live The OSXHack community!

Now it looks that Lion won't be released at WWDC, just announced, and released "in Summer 2011" (August, according to some).

Per Peter Schilling @ WWDC, Lion will be an AppStore exclusive (no physical media at all except for new hardware), and arrive there next month (July). Cost - $29USD (same as Snow Leopard).
