Hello ;)

I have finaly got my ATI Radeon 4570 Mobility with QE/CI to work.

Now comes the tuning ;)

My Laptop is too hot i think (60C) and the Battery drains a lot (sry for bad english).

The Fan runs all the time at 100%. I also try VoodooPowerMini/ACPI and lots of FakeSMC Plugins but noting will work.

Maybe there is a sulotion with DSDT?

But i have no idea with DSDT patching.

PLeas help me ;)

P.S: Sry for my bad english

try changing the macmodel to iMac9,1 - 10,1 or iMac11,1 via SMBIOS.plist . Try them one after one and reboot after each change. These 3 mac models all have ATI mobility cards. ( see mactracker.app from appstore free ; for details )

reason ( complicated ) : Powermanagement of Ati 4xxx cards is only handled correctly if ApplegraphicsPowermanagement.kext finds the MacModel for one of the cards the kext has the speedstep infos for.. for example iMac11,1 uses Ati 4670 , which works for all 46xx cards cause its one family the kext has iMac 11,1 two entries, one for Nvidia and one for Ati. If your laptop boots as a iMac , the kext will load and try to change the GPU load accoring to the values it finds for ATI because it will appear to the kext of course that your "iMac" is the one which was shipped with such a card . .. Other way round : If your smbios is that of a macbook, the kext can do nothing, because no macbook features such a ATI card.

The Ati card in laptops is the Number One fan issue, cause it produces the biggest heat and has the biggest fan in all of the modern laptops components.

For other powermanagement/Speedstep stuff it depends on your CPU. You can use Nullcpupowermanagement.kext which seems to make most CPUs run cooler ( and only in 32bit mode cause 64bit runs hotter ) or Apples IntelCPU kext, but for the later one you need a reall good patched DSDT.aml which goes beyond "basics".

In any case you need the ATI card to work properly. Mine is blowing only when I watch flash videos long time or run fullscreen games. And then it goes into a silent mode again, when i do only normal office work in SnowLeo. that.

The SMC plugins do nothing for CPU speed. They only make monitoring values possible , but i would not rely on them because the infos are not measured just average and therefore can be wrong.

I can run OSX on my Laptop all day long, sometimes it gets hot, the card blows a few minutes, then again silent.. I really do not worry about that. It works now for weeks and I had no crashes so far or any sign of overusage/ power failure whatever.

In Vista 64 for example it was also a lot of GPU fan noise, and similar hot . I think it is by design. Ati has made the bios so that the fan kicks in to the highest value when Video / 3D is used .. Seems to be hardcoded. Apples Graphicspowermanagement kext also reveals that there are only 3 thermal zones for iMacs ATI card. "low power", "average load" and "gaming" I would call them.

I would not tinkert with the settings. Trying a different macModel in SMBIOS is the safest way.

You can watch my youtube videos or my posts for the Ati 4650 in Toshiba L500 , I explain that there.
