I made come back to 10.6.7 (too many problems with 10.6.8)

Now, all is working well, except front panel with audio port and memory card slots

for card reader use this: http://www.kexts.com/view/1875-realtek_card_reader.html

and ad this to org.chameleon.Boot.plist

<key>USBBusFix</key>

<string>Yes</string>

front audio works if selected in system preferences :)

EDIT : WARNING THIS GUIDE IS OBSOLETE. TEPAKS HAS WRITTEN AN EXCELLENT STEP BY STEP GUIDE THAT FAR SUPRASSES MINE. I'LL LEAVE THIS HERE ONLY FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES IN CASE YOU ARE EXPERIMENTING. THE GUIDE IS LOCATED HERE

I want to preface the following post by letting you guys know that I just got into this Hackintosh business about 3 days ago. I was searching for a cheap iMac or old Mac Pro to buy, so I could learn OSX, having been a PC guy all my life. I found out that apparently people think their 5 year old Mac poops gold, so I decided instead to buy a tiny little PC that I didn't even know supported OSX (it was cute and cheap).

I discovered that in fact some great members around here (Camilo, and tepaks) had had great success in getting this working flawlessly, but there was no guide. I tried to follow Camilo's directions and got nowhere (would get "can't find legacy_kernel" errors, no matter what). In addition, Camilo recommended to install Chameleon RC5 7xx and I couldn't find any trace of that on the current version of #####. After about 15 OSX installation failures, I decided to PM both of them. Tepaks replied and he suggested using OSx65 Mod CD instead of nawcom's boot cd. After about 2 hours of a few more troubleshooting procedures and trial and error, here's my "official" step by step guide to getting your P5G965 to run OS 10.6.7 32bit 100% working. I decided on 10.6.7 because I'd read about problems with 10.6.8. If this is not the case, let me know!

There is another thing that I'm also not 100% sure about. I am not using on board video, I am using a Geforce 7300LE that required NO additional kexts except what was in #####. I do not know what other video cards work, and I presume you could amend this installation procedure to accomodate what ever video card you choose to use. Beware, I do not think the onboard video is well supported.

Step 1: Flash (update) your bios to Camilo's modded bios. This bios lets you select AHCI in the hard drive settings. It is located Here -> http://www.mediafire.com/?r0l68k1x2ddnn (Select the 100% working folder, and go to 3rd page. It's called "T3-P5G965-AHCI-MOD-v0903.rom")

Step 1a: Change all the bios settings to defaults, then change the hard drive mode to AHCI, and put DVD rom as only boot device (We'll change this later)

Step 2: Burn a boot CD! I tried whatever nawcom cd is current (as of Sept. 29 2011) as Camilo suggests in the OP, but it does not work anymore! I had success downloading OSx86 Mod CD version 0.3.1 (located here http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=446)

Step 3: BUY AN OSX 10.6.0 RETAIL CD. NOT A DISTRO. ;)

Step 4: Make sure that your DVD ROM drive is set to Primary in the boot settings!

Step 5: Boot with your OSx86 MODCD. When everything's loaded, swap DVD's to your Retail OSX 10.6 DVD. Wait about 10 seconds, Push F5. run OSX install.

Step 6: Erase your current partition (provided you don't want to dual boot and you have NOTHING TO LOSE ON YOUR DRIVE. DON'T BLAME ME FOR BEING DUMB! THIS WILL DELETE ALL YOUR DATA) and Recreate it Journaled in HFS+

Step 6a: Alternatively, using some sort of sorcery if you're planning on dual booting just install on a clean partition.

Step 7: Customize the installation. I removed additional languages and print drivers, helping reduce the installation time.

Step 7a: Move the mouse every once and a while. OSX apparently likes attention.

Step 8: When the computer reboots, put your OSx86 ModCd back in. and boot off your new OSX installation. Your computer SHOULD boot without any hitches. Go through the new setup procedure. once you're at the desktop. Download the following:

##### 3.6.0 (DO NOT USE ANY OTHERS, I CANNOT VOUCH FOR ANY OTHER VERSION WORKING. I know for a fact 3.9.0 does not work with this setup)

The DSDT posted in the OP of this thread

Combo Update 10.6.0 > 10.6.7 (I did 10.6.7 instead of .8 because of problems I'd read about, I don't know if it is fully working now, am not in the mood to check)

Step 9: Be careful with the following steps, as it took me a few installations before I got it right.

1. Put DSDT.AML file on your desktop. (the one you downloaded from Camilo)

2. Open ##### (3.6.0!)

3. Run Combo Update DO NOT RESTART

4. Install ##### with the following options (USERDSDT, SYSTEM UTILITIES, APPROPRIATE GRAPHICS KEXT) there may be others that you need, but after trying both the EasyDSDT and going checkmark happy with user dsdt, I went minimalistic.

5. Don't reboot after ##### runs. Move the DSDT that's on your desktop into /extra (redundant step I think).

6. Add the Cstates and Pstates keys and strings from the OP into your apple.boot.plist.

7. Delete NullCpuPowerManagement.kext

8. Reboot

9. HOPEFULLY you are booting into a working OSX environment.

10. Find the above posts, and install the realtek card reader kext.

11. Add USBBusFix string and key to your apple.boot.plist

12. ENJOY OSX!

I can test a Sapphire 4650 as well to see if it works, but I'm afraid to mess with anything else right now. Tepaks, and Camilo please give me your input! I also decided to put this here because this is the second thread that comes up on google when searching "P5G965 osx" in google. I think it would better serve future lurkers if it's in this tread as opposed to the database or something.

I want to amend my previous post, sleep does not work. I don't understand what I need to do to fix it. The PC will go to "sleep" but the light remains solid, and won't boot back up.

Solid blue power is not good, it must flash in sleep mode. I had sameproblem but finally figured out how to make my own DSDT.aml and voila! it works now! You still have to set all the jumpers to +5vSB

Nice!!! Did you like the splash screen of the bios? ;)

hmmm, haven't used card reader for months, will try and tell you. Try booting with a memory card already inserted into it.

Hi !

Do you install Lion on your P5G965 ? I had some troubles with 10.6.8 version I needed to come back in n-1 version.

Then I hesitate to try Lion...

Thanks

Yeah right, Cannabis on your boot screen will solve all the problems, just like in real life!

Don't get me wrong, I've been there and tried that only to wake up next morning with more problems I've had evening before!

If you really want to get this peace of obsolete hardware to run OSX, at least search thru this community and you will find the answer!

It's there, I'm sure! One of them I've written my self!
