I've been following this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi.../t194738-0.html

(which I found while trying to download tools for more difficult guides =x)

I am able to successfully reach a (mostly) functional 10.6.0 desktop... Haven't put any of the kexts in, haven't installed Chameleon, haven't combo updated.

My biggest challenge right now is that I have been making mistakes, neglecting to do things, doing things the wrong way... I understand my errors and would like to correct them, but each time I hit a kernel panic screen, my only course of action is to format the partition and reinstall.

I have read "boot with -x" or "hold shift after startup beep"

But I don't see a prompt where I can add -x on the boot132 or chameleon 2 rc3 OS selection screen. And my machine does not beep, so I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I have tried hitting F8 at the chameleon loader, I thought I saw something about this being part of safe booting, nothing happens.

Another question about updating... What order should I be going in? kexts, chameleon install, <restart> then install updates? Or is the order irrelevant?

Also, I have seen posts instructing others to extract and dump entire /s/l/e folders filled with the correct kexts, not using a kext installer. Is this advisable? When I tried pasting over an extensions folder I had to click through something like 200 warnings about kexts not being loaded.

Thanks in advance!

Okay. Successfully combo updated to 10.6.3 without any hiccups.

I have yet to add kexts + other items.

Okay, I just realized in boot132/probably chameleon as well you can just type -x to start in safe mode, however after unsuccessfully installing the kexts WITH the kext installer, I hit a kernel panic with about half a screen of verbose junk in the background

UPDATE:

Okay. I don't know why, but I've got sound and battery levels now.

The kernel panic I was getting seems to have been a one time thing

Trackpad still flips out, I'll have to do a little digging.

Current issue is with my Nvidia Quadro 160m ... Only allowing me to do 1024x768. I downloaded and (i believe) successfully installed supbtsup's extensions and / files, but I'm assuming he had a different graphics chipset in his machine.

Maybe I can actually contribute some information... The Hawking "Hi Gain Wireless 150N" adapter I stupidly bought last night appears to be working... Though I have to use the Hawking utility to manage the connection.

See... Then I stumble upon this...http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.6/Portables#Latitude_E6500

Guys QE/CI is working out of the box with the same video chipset I have...

Why then, after I've updated to 10.6.6 and updated chameleon do I not have similar results? Ahh... Didn't use this myhack thing... Should I wipe it and start from scratch? Of course he states that he's done 32 bit. Can I force a 32 bit installation on 64 bit hardware? Would that screw me over in the long run?

edit - sorry for bumping i should have just edited
