Post nawcom ModUSB install my DVD drive was finicky. I couldn't watch DVDs at all. I also had some issues installing iLife '11.

I have an Asus CG5290 which has a gimped Rampage II Gene Mobo. I had turned off JMicron in the BIOS prior to install. In order to solve my post install DVD issues I enabled JMicron but chose IDE + AHCI. I then plugged the DVD drive into the Jmicron header with a SATA cable. The Jmicron header is sitting by itself on my MoBo. And its oriented perpendicular to the Mobo instead of on the edge and horizontal.

Hope this helps someone else.

Also, I would appreciate an explanation for why my fix worked.
