osx wont respond until 5 minutes after boot up

hey I just installed hazard 10.6.6i osx on my lenovo z560 and the install went fine but after the osx boots and goes to the desktop, the system won't respond to any keystrokes or the mouse (other than just moving the pointer around) After that 5 minutes everything works fine. Does anyone know how to fix this?
