I succes to enable both internal monitor and QE/CI on my msi CX620 laptop.

I have a HD5470 (Mobility, but hd5470 is only mobility!).

Please read carefully the requirement before:

You need:

- A working 10.6.6 or 10.6.7 installation, I don't help to upgrade your computer, look at other topic for help about this.

- ##### 3.3

- Maybe windows, or linux to obtain your EDID

- Switchable graphics (if you have that) disabled in your bios

- Patience, very important

It's useful to have:

-Lizard

-KextUtility

So the tutorial !

Step 1 : EDID Injection !

If your internal display is unknow for the system , you must inject your EDID first.

Follow this good tutorial by CharredPC

Step 2 : Chameleon

With ##### 3.3 install the chameleon ati (by Kabyl)

Step 3: 2011 MBP's kext

This kext package come from new MBP update, exept for AtiSupport.kext wich come from lion

It's very important to no install other AtiSupport.kext than the one from Lion and to install other kexts from MBP 2011 update, or your graphics never works

Main_pack.zip

The Injector must be put in /E/E

Install the kexts with kext utility.

Step 4: com.apple.boot.plist

Add to your file (the /Extra one):

<key>AtiConfig</key>

<string>Hoolock</string>

Or use Lizard to add the new strings.

Step 5: Reboot, and enjoy wink_anim.gif

So, for the tester I still have some problems tongue.gif

First I have a white 'translucent taskbar', I think there still a problem with transparency.

And I can't view spotlight search. (maybe the same problem)

But QE/CI works, correct resolution too.

Photobooth, iWorks, Front Row, Dvd player, Preview, ... all works expect the translucent taskbar!

there is a hack for transparent menubars for those without QE/CI. I have seen it posted in the intel graphics forums in ont of the HD4xxx series threads there. Try that and see if it helps.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=250799

also, try ATISupport.kext and ATIFramebuffer.kext from there

How did you install snow leopard

i am trying to the same on my dell 17r n7010 and having tough time with it

I have a retail cd and my laptop has core pi 460m with ari 5470 graphics

NB: You maybe have to disable switchable graphics in your BIOS.

So the tutorial !

Follow this good tutorial by CharredPC

Step 2 : Chameleon

Found the latest chameleon RC5 version, and install the Kabyl's ati boot.

Kabyl's ati boot here.

If you don't know how install the boot file it's simple:

Open terminal

type: sudo cp

drag the boot file into terminal

type: /

press enter

You must have something like that: sudo cp (path to your boot file) /

Step 3: 2011 MBP's kext

Simply download the following package,

Install the kext with kext utility.

Step 4: com.apple.boot.plist

Add to your file (the /Extra one):

<string>AtiConfig</string>

<key>Hoolock</key>

Or use Lizard to add the new strings.

Step 5: Reboot, and enjoy :P

What did you exactly do? When I try to do CharredPC's tutorial I can't find IODisplayEDID and AppleBlacklightDisplay. Looking in the ioreg I can see the edid of my monitor.

My internal display is working but with wrong colors, the resolution it's ok.

Have you stretch the terminal as wide as possible? It's very important or you will not see some date even with the search fonction.

It's normal if you don't found IODisplayEDID, I had to use windows to have it.

And if you don't wide the terminal you can't see AppleBlacklightDisplay too.

Sorry, i did not even get to installing these kexts. As soon as i install 10.6.6 i am getting a kernet panic.

Now it hangs at "DSMOS has arrived".

Using Retail DVD and the ##### legacy. Which method did you use to do base SL install?

I will install from scratch again and see what happens

Thanks for your help.

I use: Retail DVD, ##### last version, external HDD, ##### last version, combo update 10.6.6:

I install Mac OS X 10.6.0 both on laptop and an external HDD with the DVD.

Boot on external HDD with ##### and GraphicsEnabler=No.

Boot on laptop with GraphicsEnabler=No, install kexts with kext utility, configure smbios and com.apple.boot.plist and reboot.

Yes it's hard to install, if you have switchable graphics (core i) there is another method:

Activate switchable graphics, install mac osx on the laptop.

With GraphicsEnabler=No install 10.6.6 Don't reboot,then ##### with kabyl's boot.

Configure smbios and com.apple.boot.plist, install the kexts.

Reboot, desactivate switchable graphics, and boot on mac osx.

thanks for your support..,

i'll try it and let u know..

thanks alot...

This sounds ironical ...

Sorry I can't help you if you not tell me more than that.

When your screen is scramble?

EDID injection or kexts injection ?

Is the screen streched?

If you try GraphicsEnabler=No the screen is scramble too?

Sorry for my previous quick answer but the kexts not working at all if your system is not in 10.6.6.

New package come soon ...

You will laugh ...

I have reinstalled SL, because I have done mistake on it.

So I have reinstalled it without format my hdd in order to keep my personnal documents.

It's not working, what the ****, it's even worst than when I didn't have QE/CI ...

So I think I will make a new clean install and start from scratch with my method.

For the moment this is the new kext package from new MBP 2011, the same which allow me to have QE/CI but I succes to find all of the kexts.

Take this pack and test it.

kext_pack_2.zip

Don't forget to backup old kexts, it's very important !

I will be away this week, so I won't help you, sorry.

Oh and if someone could compile this file with file for the last kabyl's boot it would be nice.

ati.c.zip

(This should enable 5470M and solve some errors)

Got it working with ATI rom dump in /Extra. But no QE/CI. The AT5000 and X3000 exts are loaded Ok.

What else could I check to see why no QE/CI?

It's the AtiRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle and AtiRadeonX3000VADriver.bundle which enable QE/CI

check if your have them, and also check the version.plist in the bundle.

It should be 1.6.30.

The bundle are in my new package.

AtiRadeonX3000GA.plugin must enable tranlucent taskbar properly but I'm not sure.

Have you the correct resolution ?

I installed your pack but I have the same results:

ATIRadeonX3000GLDriver seems to load but I can't seem to find VADriver. My display shows up as "Internal LCD Forced EDID" but I can't get EDID when i use ioreg. I have added it to the *-717 file. I'm sure I'm pretty close.

Sly-Mac-Pro:Contents sylvain$ ioreg -l | grep -i x3000

Yes, you're correct is saying it should be <key> and then <string>

I had the same error "Ati card posted, reading VBIOS from legacy space". I managed to boot using Nawcom's boot CD instead, but didn't have my 5470 setup correctly. I have to try again this week.

Hello folks.

I also have ati mobility hd 5470 and it works with correct resolution and i believe with some kind of hardware aceleration, but not full QE/CI :P

Also please check this this - and help if you can. You can find more details about that works here.

In short what I did.

SL 10.6.3 retail updated to 10.6.7 wiath delta updates (normal delta for 10.6.7, not for MBP)

Installed smbios for MacBookPro8,1 from ##### 3.4.0

Boot with AtiConfig=Hoolock from ##### 2.7.

This should also work for you, at least you will get something.

I followed the instructions from this topicd, but failed. It can not load hd5000 ati kext with atisupport from lion.

So I swithed to me semi working kexts ;)

But please note - they are nice

"

My gfx card is detected as HD 5000, correct resolution 1366*768 (i think without full acceleration, but a way better than 1024*768). I can see screensavers, timemachine ui, but can NOT see "water effect" when adding widget to desktop. Also, my task bar is not transparent.

"

I can see _all_ screensavers, youtube vieos (without them safary crashes) etc.

Please report you success here.

Hello.

It seems you do not need to do anything special at all to make it work - just install 10.6.7 (retail + update), mbp smbios.plist from ##### and select correct framebuffer type. that is all.

I have the same situation as you have now. The problems you mentioned I think are from incorrect opengl framebuffer object functionality. There are artefacts when using them. You can see it if you load glextension view for mac and run cube demo with ordinary framebuffer and with framebuffer object.
