my partition is in fat-32 and i need it in Mac OS Extended format to install but no clue how to do that.

when i use the disk utility it wont let me make it hfs, it matter ima using a macbook w/ intel chip? I also tried using the disk utility from the tiger boot installl disk but it never loads just keeps the apple sign on screen and shows the little load sybol.
