Very strange behavior after upgrade to 8 GB

I have successfully installed SL with the Nawcom method on system with originally had 4 GB memory.

All programs were running: both 32 bit as well as 64 bit because my boot arguments are:

arch=i386 -force64 cpus=4

(having a Phenom X4 9950 BE with 4 cores)

But after updating to 8 GB my system is unable to run the 32-bit programs, only the 32/64 bit and 64-bit programs run.

Programs which cannot be loaded after update to 8 GB are: Photoshop Bridge, Office 2011, Lizard, Kext Utility (all of these are 32-bit only programs). I could run in 32-bit mode, but then most programs cannot address more than 2 GB memory.

The very strange thing is that when I choose the boot argument: maxmem=4094 all the programs can run, but half of my memory is disabled.

What is causing this strange behavior after updating from 4 to 8 GB of RAM ???
