Idea?

Logic and use PC for Gigastudio and VST instruments triggered via mac - you would think with Parallels and all the WINDOWS buzz-bot around OSX that there would be a simple way to network and trigger the CPU horsepower of a PC and use LOGIC as the main sequencer.

Best ways thus far???

Worm Hole, VST Stack, etc!

Thanks!

Err i dont understand the problem here why use Network or such for Midi . Just use the Midi of the PC's Soundcard or maybe USB Midiinterface and plug a Midicable between the 2. So the PC acts like a Big Soundmodul as it is with Soundmoduls or Samplers or Synths or whatever in Studios.

I think what Retroz is talking about is using a second Virtual Machine (Parallels) running windows, not a physical PC as the second machine. I haven't tried it yet but from the research I did do, it seems that the general consensus is that none of the available pieces for audio networking are up to snuff yet. I have read that wormhole has latency issues. If you do try wormhole and it works out for you then please post here and let us know. It's been a while since I read up on these things and the problems I mentioned might have been ironed out.

As for VStack (I own it) it is great as a Virtual Instrument host. Be warned, although you can also host VST effects too but only on VSTi tracks ie you couldn't have audio only tracks and use it as an effects box. This is a shame I think as the GUI is slick and I like the look and feel of it but I would have liked to use it to host DSP FX.

If it is the Giga sample libraries you want to use, then both the EXS24mkII and Kontakt samplers will open those file formats and you can stick to OSX.

My $0.02
