What am I doing wrong?

I guess I am still a new user! I lurk here at insanelymac constantly and I have successfully installed leopard on older builds of my PC. But for some reason my latest hardware is causing problems!

When I insert the iAtkos v7 DVD it boots perfectly fine. Beautimous. The install goes smooth and I have installed a variety of reportedly good combinations of options. Everything seems fine. I boot and select verbose as well as other options that I have tried in different combinations. There are no red errors in the verbose boot, and it seems to go pretty fast and smooth as well. BUT!!!

once the GUI is expected to pop up, everything stops. The screen goes black and everything is unresponsive. I do not think that the system is actually running behind the blackness (though I can't prove it) and often I have to unplug the computer for 30 seconds before it will agree to boot again instead of just spin the fans.

My hardware is a ECS 945GCT-M/1333 (V3.0) LGA 775 Intel 945GC Micro ATX Intel Motherboard, an intel core 2 duo, and an nVidia GT 2xx video card. I don't understand at all. Is there a way to duplicate the boot parameters of the install media, since it boots just fine?

If anyone can help me, many many thanks to you!
