I was going to post this in reply to topic already started here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=215998

But seeing as how I'm a new user I guess I can't reply to that thread yet. Maybe one of the moderators would be kind enough to merge me.

Anyway, I just wanted to report that I've had some success (but more failure) in getting OSX to boot on this laptop. Using ##### 2.6 and the retail snow leopard 10.6.3 disk. I was able to boot into the os normally from ##### after the install.

THe Tadeon Mobility 5XXX series obviously wasn't supported, but I could at least see the screen. However, after applying the 10.6.6 combo update + running ##### before the restart seems to have munged things up.

From ##### I chose the "easy" option, installed some kext utilities but no other drivers.

I get boot from disk now, but when the OS starts to load it hangs graphics corruption (see photos), in both normal and safe boots. Booting into verbose mode doesn't show anything descriptive (that I could see anyway). I don't get any Kernel Panics.

Safe Mode:

Not so Safe Mode:

I searched around for graphics issues on the forums, but problems people have reported seem unrelated to mine. Wondering if anyone here has had similar problems.

Funny thing is, even after the graphics corruption comes up, the HD stays fairly active, I'm wondering if maybe the OS is running fine underneath the nonsense on-screen.
