MltShift
I have a GA-P35-DS3L motherboard, q6600 CPU, 4gb DDR2-800 RAM, SATA HD, and a Powercolor HD 4850 with 512MB memory. I started by installing Hazard's 10.6.2 distro. The only extra I included during the installation was the IOATAFamily fix (I get a kernel panic otherwise.) and the newest Chameleon bootloader available on the DVD. This version booted fine into safe mode, with 1024x768 resolution, but would not boot without -x. Having read that my GPU was better supported under 10.6.5, I installed the combo update. But now it won't even boot into safe mode... I can only get into single user mode. At first I had the usual problem with SleepEnabler causing a kernel panic, so I removed that. I rebuilt the kext cache using the following commands in single user mode: mount -uw / kextcache -v 1 -m /System/Library/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/ kextcache -v 1 -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/ Unfortunately it still won't boot. It now hangs after this line, booting with "-v": acpi_smc_platformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement) timed out I have done a huge amount of searching the last couple days trying to decipher the meaning of this. I haven't found any clear answers. I'm suspecting the hang has to do with the GPU not being properly supported by my installation (tries to change to a higher resolution and is unable to display anything, hence the screen freezes?). When I hold the space bar through the boot process, the spaces continue to be displayed up until the moment that dreaded line appears. Seems to suggest the GPU theory is correct, IMO... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=237534 I used the guide in the second post there. excellent and very compatible GPU 1- use the kext legacyati4800controller.kex (E/E or S/L/E) http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=59328 2- Graphicsenabler Use Lizard http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1034555/lizard/Lizard-custom.zip 2a-Auto detect value 2b-GraphicsInjection 2c-save Reduced: 84% of original size [ 604 x 520 ] - Click to view full image REBOOT Can anyone help me refine my search for the problem? Is it really a GPU issue? Could it be something else? I tried a number of remedies for the timeout problem to no avail. Even removing AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext had no effect on the problem.
