Hi Guys

Maybe some good soul can help me. I read now for hours how to get the Korg Legacy Collection to work.

With EFI Studio i add a ethernet and all was good ! I got a valid Lock Code and could activate all of the plugs.

BUT

Inserting the EFI String for ethernet with EFi Studio fukked up my graphic card :P No more recoginzed)

So i fired up EFI Studio again and inserted the EFI String for my GFX Card...

After reboot everything wworked fine instead all of the Korg plugz are unauthorized again.

OK.

I read about combining those 2 EFi strings ethernet + graphic card. But maybe i am to stupid ....

I try to use GFXutil as in a topic described but failed ...cant get it......

Can someone help me please to make it work ?

Here is my actual com.apple.boot.plist : (with working graphiccard but unregistered plug ins)

Forget about the ethernet EFI string, just add EthernetBuiltIn=y to your /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist.

If you absolutely must use an EFI string for your ethernet, all you need to do is add it at the end of your video card string, no space or anything, just paste it at the end. Good luck if you ever have to separate them again :-)

btw this belongs in post installation and not in 'Apple World', it is a general Hackintosh issue and has nothing to do with real Macs or specifically with Korg Legacy, which btw is a nice piece of software. I've had the pleasure of playing and operating all three synths in real life several times, even using the MS-20 as a guitar synthesizer, the software hybrid that combines all three into one is the real treat in this package.

If you should ever come across the real thing, the Korg Polysix has a factory reset button inside that will restore the original factory presets from the 80s. Don't forget to save all your sounds to tape or MD before pressing that button...like I did. That got me into trouble, it was not my Polysix!

/EDIT

Topic has been moved to post installation.

Hi Gringo

Thx for your help

Would it be correct that after my editing the com.apple.boot.plist will look like this :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

;) close, but no cigar! Look closely again at how the commands work, each consist of a key and a string. Nicely organized.

You must follow the existing syntax where the key holds the command and the string holds the value or flag you want to pass to it.

EthernetBuiltIn

y

btw, you can delete the Quiet Boot and Boot Graphics keys and strings, you're using the default values so there's no need to set them in com.apple.Boot.plist.

You should delete the -f flag as well (leaving the kernel flags string empty). This will dramatically reduce your boot time.

If you want to know more, google or forum search what the -f flag does.

HI Gringo

THX...again learned something !

the -f flag ! Someone told me to set this so that my graphiccard will be always detected correctly...but good will leave it blank

Will try everything and report back...well if my machine will boot of course .. ;)

Me again

With this string it didnt work..still getting wrong lock code 0-00000 in Logic (Graphic resolution ok) when i fire up the plug in ;)

So i think i have to insert the whole:

<dict>

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1c,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

<dict>

<key>built-in</key>

<string>0x01</string>

</dict>

in boot.plist ??

But i am a little bit confused now

You told me the every key has a string...but this line:

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1c,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

has no string compared to these lines:

<key>built-in</key>

<string>0x01</string>

so where and how to add this to my plist ??

Would this work ?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

If I'm reading you right, none of what you're asking will work, it's completely wrong. You have to convert that stuff with gfxutil first like you did with your gfx-string. Then amend it - manually - at the end of the device-properties string, I already told you that.

Forget about that device-properties string for a minute though, there is a simpler and much more manageable way:

Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete NetworkInterfaces.plist.

Then drop this com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra: com.apple.Boot.plist.zip

Now reboot and check in System Profiler if your QE/CI is working and that your LAN is set as internal and en0.

Then try running Korg Legacy again.

Hi Gringo

I deleted my NetworkInterfaces.plist.

I took your c.om.apple.boot.plist and replace the one i had.

Booting without problems

In my Systemprofiler i see :

Ethernet (en0) But there isn´t anything set to internally :(

Korg Legacy Authorizer still spits out that unusable 0-00000

Desperate again... :(

As i wrote above i did everything as you wrote

BUT

I checked the Networkinterfaces after reboot with Plisteditor

And this is what i see in it

Active Boolean YES

BSD Name String en0

IOBuiltin Boolean NO

and so on.

I try to set this line:

IOBuiltin Boolean NO

to YES and saved it

But after reboot its n NO again !?? (i try it several times)

How can i set this permanently ?

Calm down, one thing at a time. If you start doing other things and editing files left and right then I can't help you. If you had asked first I could have told you that editing networkinterfaces.plist will not work. That particular file regenerates itself on reboot, it only reflects the current settings. In other words, editing it accomplishes nothing, it'll be back to where it was on the next reboot.

Do you have QE/CI working with the com.apple.Boot.plist I gave you?

If you don't, then set PciRoot=1 in com.apple.Boot.plist...

PciRoot

1

...and reboot.

Hehe, you were only supposed to do that if your video card wasn't detected properly. If that was the case, this would probably have fixed your ethernet not being set as internal as well.

Set PciRoot to 0 or just delete the key and string, your choice.

So your video card works with GraphicsEnabler=y then (I set that in your com.apple.Boot.plist). At least that's something, no more fooling around with device properties strings for your video card. I hope you noticed that small detail.

MAYBE, just maybe, now that your video card works without a device-properties string - you can use EFI studio to generate only a device properties string for your ethernet and put it in com.apple.Boot.plist. Try that for now and see if it works.

If it doesn't - let's move on:

Are you using a DSDT? If you are, zip it up and attach it.

Type kextstat -k >stat.txt in terminal and attach the generated text file here (it'll appear in your user folder after running that command).

Show me the contents of your /Extra folder and subfolders. Take a screenshot of it in tree folder view, with the sub folders expanded.

ok i deleted this string (still graphic not properly detected just 128 Mb)

What i di now i generate with EFI Studio this for ethernet:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">'>http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1c,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

<dict>

<key>built-in</key>

<string>0x01</string>

</dict>

</dict>

</plist>

i wanted now to merge it with my Boot.plist

i copy and paste :

<key>built-in</key>

<string>0x01</string>

into my Boot.plist:

Now it looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>y</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>y</string>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

<key>built-in</key>

<string>0x01</string>

</dict>

</plist>

No i try to copy and paste this line into my Boot.plist:

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1c,0x4)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

But where and how correct ? I tried it on several places and it wont let me save it :)

I get more and more confused

And if this not enough somwhow i cant take any screenshot neither with the shortcuts nor with snap n drag ....!?

I hear the shutter sound but no screenshot on desktop...... i am getting angry

So i write down wich folder i have in /Extras

64BitConversion

Core Image

CoreAudio

Dictionary Developement Kit

Java

Kernel Debugging

LegacyAPISurvey

Modem Scripts

PreferencePanes

And Graphics is very slow... :(((

And i think the not properly detected graphic card is responsible for non working screenshot.!?

Are you reading my posts at all?

I already told you twice, you can not put that in your com.apple.Boot.plist, you must convert it to a proper device properties string first. One more time, with pictures.

1.png 2.png

For an example of a working device-properties string, look at your own first post!!

Yes, you can't take screenshots with shift/command/4 if QE/CI is not working. It's not working now because we added PciRoot=1, which I have already told you to remove again!

What video card do you have?

Also, you have posted the contents of your /Developer/Extras folder, which is totally unrelated to what we are doing here and not what I asked for.

Please understand that I cannot help you if you don't do what I ask.

I asked for the contents of your /Extra folder. If you don't have an /Extra folder then where did you put the com.apple.Boot.plist I attached for you?

I also asked for your kextstat -k output, if you want my help please don't make me repeat myself in writing, that's just a waste of time. This is supposed to be fun.

Are you running Kalyway/iDeneb/iATKOS or something? If so, all bets are off and the first thing you should do is upgrade to Chameleon 2.0 RC5. Make sure you install it to the same place that your current bootloader is installed. It is your job to know where that is.

Delete natit and nvenabler64, those are video injectors and will conflict with each other and GraphicsEnabler=y.

Chameleon RC5 succesfully installed

Awesome. Delete EvOreboot.kext as well, Chameleon 2.0 RC5 has the same fix built-in.

Delete that Extensions.mkext too, right now it will just add to the confusion. It's a cache that holds the kernel extensions in /Extra/Extensions, I'll show you how to rebuild that later. If you keep it, the extensions that you have deleted from /Extra/Extensions will still load from the mkext and we don't want that, otherwise we wouldn't be deleting them!

If your /Extra folder is named /Extras, none of those extensions will be loaded. The folder must be named Extra, not Extras.

It is very strange that you have a disabler.kext but your kextstat output shows that AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext and the merom CPU profile are loaded - along with disabler.kext. I've never seen anything like it, disabler.kext should be disabling those, that's what it's for.

Go to /System/Library/Extensions and look at the contents of that folder. Do you see the same files there as you have in /Extra/Extensions?

Copy the com.apple.Boot.plist that you have been working with until now (the one in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) to the /Extra folder.

Then grab this unmodified com.apple.Boot.plist and stick it in /Library/Preferences/Systemconfiguration.

vanilla_com.apple.Boot.plist.zip Type your password when asked and let it overwrite the old c.a.B.p with the vanilla one.

Congratulations, that's one step further towards a clean, vanilla installation.

From now on, under no circumstances use EFI Studio to modify com.apple.Boot.plist!!

It is okay to use EFI studio to generate device properties strings etc etc but you must insert them by hand (just use plist editor) in the com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra, not the one in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. EFI studio will write to the one in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration because it is old and was written before we started using the /Extra folder on Hackintoshes. Don't let it do that!

The philosophy here is to keep contents of system folders unmodified (as far as possible). As a consequence, running OS X updates will not kill your Hackintosh since your modifications and patches are all in /Extra and its subfolders, which will never be touched when running an update.

What version of OS X are you running?

What make and model CPU and motherboard do you have?

What is the make and model of your on-board ethernet?

I go to System/Library/Extentions and none of the Extra/Extensions .kexts are in that folder

I have OSX 10.6.5 running

It is a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 6 Gig of Ram

My Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 ( i think thats the right one)

I hope i have every question answered ?

What version of OS X are you running?

Ethernet Marvell Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 Singleport Copper SA:

Hey that's pretty cool, did you know that the 88E8053 is supported by the original, unmodified Apple network hardware drivers?

You're lucky to have that. I'm sure we can get it to work as built-in, stick with me and we'll get there eventually.

Did you delete all the kernel extensions I asked you to, including the extensions.mkext?

Hersteller: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Geräte-ID: 0x05e6

It is strange because your GTX 275's "Geräte ID" (device ID) 05e6 is "known" by Chameleon 2.0 RC5, look here:

http://forge.voodooprojects.org/p/chameleo...ibsaio/nvidia.c (

Look at line 312 - 0x10DE05E6, "GeForce GTX 275". This is your video card.

Even though QE/CI may not work, it should still show correctly as a GTX 275 in System Profiler with GraphicsEnabler=y set in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist.

Have you ever made any modifications to the nvidia drivers? Or installed modified nvidia drivers?

Have you ever run any 10.6.x version updates from Apple Software Update?

Do you still have GraphicsEnabler=y in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist? Make sure that you do.

Also make sure that your monitor is plugged into the DVI port that's physically closest to your motherboard...looking directly at the back of your PC case that would be the left one obviously.

Are you 100% sure that you have really installed Chameleon 2.0 RC5? What installation method did you use?

Chameleon shows what version it is when you boot up, at the top of the boot selector GUI. See photo:

photo.jpg

Before you reboot:

Extract and drop this MacPro3,1 smbios.plist in /Extra..

MacPro3_1smbios.plist.zip

...and replace your /Extra/Extensions/fakesmc.kext with this one:

FakeSMCv3.1.0_MacPro3.1.kext.zip

It is the latest version available, with the smc version set to match that of a MacPro3,1.

As a precaution, flush your extensions cache before booting up with this smbios.plist:

When you see the timeout bar, press any key to get to the Chameleon boot selector GUI, and then type -f at the prompt.

Note that your first keypress will only make the command prompt appear in the bottom left corner and not enter anything, so make sure it actually says -f on the command line before you press enter! Again, see the attached photo for reference.

One more thing - let me know what the native resolution of your display is.

/EDIT

I lied - there is one more thing - I'm going to ask a moderator to move this topic to the 10.6.x post installation issues subforum.

Hi Gringo

Sorry for answering so late but yesterday it was late in the evening here :construction:

I deleted all kernel extensions you write down.

I never modified any Nvidia drivers

I never made an update through Apple Software update (was just glad my machine worked )

I downloaded the Chameleon installer from this forum

I will check all other issues when i am out of work.

How to flush the extension cache ? Command line ? Kext Utility ?

Will write you when i am home today

Ok

My Chameleon is 2.0 RC5

I put the smbios.plist and the FakeSMC.kext in the right folder

I did everything you told me in the last post exept i hammered on my keyboard when i saw the tiemout bar but couldnt

get any command prompt

The timeoutbar just dissapeared and and OSX booted ;)

To be sure i tried it a second time

And a new problem came up . when i hit restart everything goes down and then on a blank blue screen the status circle turns around ...after some long time it stop to move and then it hung.....:D

When i hit a shutdown the computer goes down very fast without hanging.

But still nothing happens when i try to hit any key when timeoutbar is

I hope i explained it well enough.

One more thing...Graphic enabler in /Extra/*****Boot.plist is still on y

But Graphic card still on 32 Mb not properly detected

My normal screen resolution is: 1680 x 1050

Pfuhh i hope i did answer all of your questions

Update: Now the -f startup worked...but the same result as i told above

Screenshot still dont work

In order to help you fix this, I need to see some diagnostic information from Chameleon. Use this com.apple.Boot.plist in extra:

com.apple.Boot.plist.zip

It has wait=y added which makes Chameleon output something like this and wait for a keypress:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_o19m6RdW3Ig/SnS6...h/chameleon.jpg

That is the information I'm interested in, please take a photo and attach it here.

You didn't confirm this before so I'm going to repeat it - make sure your monitor is plugged into the DVI port that's physically closest to your motherboard.

In your /Extra folder, create a new folder and name it Themes.

Unzip this folder inside:Chameleon_2.0_RC5_default_theme.zip

This is the new default theme for Chameleon 2.0 RC5, modified for your native screen resolution (see theme.plist inside).

If you already have a Themes folder in /Extra, delete the folder "default" inside before unzipping this one.

I've also set Chameleon's boot screen resolution to 1680x1050 in the new com.apple.Boot.plist. This requires that your video card's VESA BIOS supports this mode. If you get garbled graphics or some other resolution please let me know and I'll change it back to a safe setting. Don't worry, you will still be able to boot.

When you reboot this time, Chameleon will go straight to the menu instead of displaying the countdown bar and wait for your input.

Press enter to boot the highlighted partition and take a photo of the diagnostic output from Chameleon.

Do you still have the DVD that you installed from?

It would probably be a good idea to boot it, run Disk Utility (find it in the tools menu) and do a disk repair and fix permissions.

You cannot do a disk repair from the Disk Utility in your Utilities folder, that's why I'm asking you to boot from the DVD.

Don't use OS X Tools on Snow Leopard, it is old and outdated, promises things that it can't deliver, and one click in the wrong place can ruin your whole installation. I hope you haven't used it.

To repair permissions, use Apple's own Disk Utility. Note that Disk Utility can't repair permissions on extensions that you have copied to /System/Library/Extensions yourself, you must do that manually.

Permissions on the files in /Extra and /Extra/Extensions don't matter, Chameleon is responsible for loading those and it doesn't care about permissions and ownership.

As I said, you cannot do a disk repair on a running system, much like you can't do repairs with chkdsk on your Windows system drive while it's running. That's why you must do it while booted from an install DVD.

That funny red Apple in your photo is from TonyMac's ##### CD/##### combo. This tells me that you haven't done what I said. Again - please understand that I can't help you if you don't follow my instructions.

Some information is missing (memory identification) from the Chameleon diagnostics, that means that haven't installed the latest version of Chameleon 2.0 RC5 like I asked you to do. Tell me how you installed it, where you got the files etc etc.

Apart from that, it looks fine. I still might have some ideas on how to fix ethernet and graphics. Though both should be working by now.

Hi

OSX Tool No i dont use any tool now without your permission ;)

I have made a Folder in /Extra called Themes cause i hadn´t one there and copied the folder called default in it. I noticed that it wasent loaded cause there was a chameleon pic in it and i still saw the red apple...

I downloaded a installer package from here and installed it it was a .dmg and then reboot

There are some many packages floating around in here it seems it wasent the right one

Graphic working in the 1680x1050 resolution but still only 32 gigs card detected....ethernet also working

Have to dig through my DVD´s cause my wife cleaned up my desk here....
