This is a complete guide for running SL 10.6.4 (or even 10.6.5, if you wish) on your EeePC 1005P. It should work with minor variations for similar Asus EeePC Models and other Pine Trail Netbooks. It is not always easy to make out the differences in EeePC models, since hardware components may vary even for identical identification numbers.
What you need:
iPortable Snow Installer [MacOSX].dmg. Use google or other source to find the image.
“boot” File from meklorts netbook installer 0.8.5
IO80211Family.kext for built-in Atheros AR9285 WLAN Card
AtherosL1cEthernet.kext for Ethernet
VoodooHDA.kext for Sound
VoodooBattery.kext for Battery
ApplePS2Controller.kext and Synaptics Preference.Pane for Synaptics Trackpad two finger scrolling
A Snow Leopard Installation Disk (10.6.2 will be best) for installing other languages than English or dutch.
I put these files in a downloadable archive. Since it took me a long time to find the right kexts, I don´t have the original download sources available. Credits go to the authors who made these kexts, not to me. Here is the download link:

1146 downloadsA usb pen drive or external disk > 8 GB for installation.
Carbon Copy Cloner for OS X. It´s freeware from bombich software.
A yes…and a working Mac or Hackintosh to perform the installation of iPortable Snow. Might not work properly on 10.6.5 or later, since the included version of CopyCat had problems running under 10.6.5. Runs fine on any mac or Hack under 10.6.4 or earlier.
You can install the system to any usb pen drive with 8 GB or bigger, to an external usb disk or, as in my case, to the second partition on your EeePC Hard Drive. You may end up like me with a Triple/Quadruple boot system: Windows 7, ASUS Splash Top Linux, Google Chrome OS on SD Card and finally Mac OS X.
;-))
What you get:
Full 1024x800 resolution, you can watch video in iTunes and Youtube.
Working Airport, Ethernet, USB, Cardreader, Camera (including FrontRow and FaceTime), Trackpad with two finger scrolling, Sound with Mic for Skype (I had problems with FaceTime sound)
A working 10.6.2 system easily upgradeable to 10.6.4 or 10.6.5.
If you wish to update to 10.6.5, use 3rr0rists_10.6.5_v2.dmg (google) to replace the kexts for external usb drives by their 10.6.4 versions, otherwise you will get a kernel panic when using usb drives. I had problems using flash from 10.6.5, so I stayed with 10.6.4. You may solve this by installing an older flash version 10.0x.
What you don´t get:
No hardware acceleration (QE/CI) yet, wait for meklorts kext, therefore no Front Row, no edit mode in iPhoto, no jpg in Preview (Quickview works) etc.
No sleep yet, but it shouldn´t be a big deal to be applied through various kexts available. I had no need for sleep so I didn´t invest any time in this.
Trackpad tap is difficult. I got it working somehow, but I don´t remember how. It works only for the first user created with setup assistant, not for other users created later. Maybe I´ll find out, I will let you know.
How-To:
Install first to a usb drive. It should have more than 8 GB of disk space. Use a pen drive or any external hard disk. If the system runs from this drive, you can clone it later to the second partition of the EeePC. Use Disk Utility to partition the drive as described in the iPortable Snow ReadMe.
Open iPortable Snow Installer.dmg and follow the instructions to restore the iPortable Snow Backup to your usb drive with CopyCat. This takes usually less than 15 minutes. Your drive should now be named iPortable_Snow_x86.
Just to make sure that your drive will be bootable, run iPortable Bootfix from your new drives “Hackintosh tools” folder. Be extremely careful to install everything to the right drive. Read the warnings and follow the instructions. Choose “iPortable_Snow_x86” for installation!!!!!
Now copy the “boot” file from meklorts nbi to the root directory of your “iPortable_Snow_x86” drive. This will give you full display resolution but no QE/CI yet.
You can either go on copying the other needed kexts to your drive or do some test booting with your drive. I recommend the second. Press ESC during boot and choose your external drive. It should boot without any problems using “-v –f” for first boot. It is generally a good idea to use –v -f until everything works fine.
First boot may take some time, so get some coffee…Eventually it will boot up. If not, follow the instructions in the iPortable Snow ReadMe. Running pfix usually helps. You can run this utility from any mac and use it on your iPortable Snow hard drive.
After first boot you will be greeted by the OS X setup assistant. Enter the information needed. Create a user account. Now you can copy the kexts from my zip-file to /Extra/Extensions.
Run pfix. Boot again with –v -f. If you get kernel panic, boot again, with/without –v –f until the system starts up. You may have to boot several times until everything is recognized. Open system preferences, network, so that ethernet and airport will be initialized. If you hear a hissing sound, lower the volume of “Microphone (PinkRear)” under Input. Install synaptics preference pane and do the necessary settings, especially two finger scrolling. If your cursor gets jumpy, use a usb mouse to finish everything and reboot. Your trackpad should now work with two finger scrolling.
You should now have a working 10.6.2. system. Install any language pack you whish from SL Install DVD (optional installs). Make a backup copy of your system using Carbon Copy Cloner. It is safe to run Software Update except for 10.6.4/10.6.5 update. Run the combo update installer from Apple instead. After any system update, run pfix, boot with –v –f until everything runs fine. Remember to apply the USB kexts fix for 10.6.5!
If airport does not work after combo update, reinstall IO80211Family.kext to /E/E or /S/L/E. Reboot several times, it will eventually come back.
You are done now, congratulations. Do any fine tuning to the system you prefer.
Double/Triple Boot
In my EeePC configuration, the hard disk was partitioned into two visible partitions. Windows 7 is installed on the first partition, so we can use the second partition for OS X. However, after formatting the second partition to Mac OS X, I was not able to boot into Windows anymore. This can be fixed by starting from any Windows install DVD and running repair setup. You may have to run it three times. Some EeePC come without a Windows 7 DVD, so get one before messing with the second partition. It is basically restoring the mbr, so look for help on this if something goes wrong. This may not be necessary if you have a stock EeePC since I installed Windows 7 Home Basic instead of the Starter version included.
Start OS X and Disk Utility. Choose the second partition of your EeePC. It will be called Untitled 2 or something. Choose the erase tab, under Format choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled). All data on the second partition of your EeePC will be erased so be careful to choose the right partition! When this is done, clone your external disk to the internal second partition you just created with Carbon Copy Cloner. When finished, run iPortable Bootfix as described above. Install on the newly created OS X Partition on your internal Hard Disk.
Now boot into Windows. Install EasyBCD 2.0 from http://neosmart.net
Make a backup of your boot settings. Add a new entry NST Mac OS X. Save settings. Go to View settings and set the default and timeout options you prefer. Reboot. When you boot next time, you will be greeted by the Windows boot menu. Choose Mac OS X. The EeePC should boot into the OS X installation on your second partition.
With 2 GB of RAM installed, you´d be amazed how fast this MacBook mini is. If you ever see kernel panics, boot with –v –f, repair permissions, run pfix. This should help. Enjoy.
