Trevor Bauknight
I'm setting out to build my first hackintosh, and I've gotten together what I think is a pretty solid system. I'll post the components here and I'd like for those of you that know these things far better than I do to put another set of eyes on them and let me know how much trouble I can expect getting the latest 10.6 release up and running. Also, give me some insight on the future-proofness of this setup. I'm repurposing a couple of SATA hard drives and a PATA Sony optical drive that has been working in my dual-G4 MDD fire breather for a few years now. The rest is new, and I have the software. I haven't specced out a system from components since the days of the S-100 bus, but I've upgraded a bunch of Macs along the way. I enjoy games, but don't play many, and spend a lot of time in graphic design and photo postprocessing software. Would like to set up a decent audio recording/production setup in the near future, as well, though not right away. I'll be using an Apple (1006) DVI-ADC adapter to drive my 23" Apple Cinema Display (the newest acrylic one) and Apple USB keyboard and mouse. Case: Rosewill ARMOR full mesh bezel Gaming Computer Case Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L Micro ATX Intel Motherboard CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor RAM: G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory Video Card: ASUS GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) Video Card That setup, incidentally, comes to $534.94 on Newegg with a further $25 in mail-in rebates. Not bad for a $2000+ "Mac". That's why I'm doing it this way. Your input is greatly appreciated! Trevor Bauknight Sumter, S.C.
