Memory in OSX installation

So I recently built a PC with the intention of installing Snow Leopard on it. I read in the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] + [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] installation guide that if you have more than 4GB of memory installed (I have 8GB) you should remove everything but 4GB, so I did that.

 

The problem is that I have 2 4GB sticks, and apparently my motherboard and/or CPU does not work with only 1 stick of memory installed - you have to have 2 or more. This is evidenced by the fact that when I tried to run the Snow Leopard installer it gave me a grey circle with a line through it (like the no smoking sign). Likewise, when I tried to boot into Windows 7 it flashed a blue screen and then rebooted. I also tried installing the full 8GB and it displayed a lot of text and then rebooted (in safe mode) and gave me the "you must manually reboot your computer" message with safe mode off. I tried all of these methods with safe mode on and off and none of them allowed me to get to the installation screen.

 

So I'm thinking the only solution is to get 2 sticks of memory that add up to less than 4GB (probably 2 1GB sticks, because that's the cheapest option) for the installation and then install the rest afterwards. Will that solve the problem?

 

EDIT: I just realized the reason I couldn't boot into Windows 7 was because my bios was set to AHCI mode (why would that cause it not to boot anyway?) So I should emphasize - the problem is that I cannot get into the installer and I don't really know why.
