OK do you happen to have the textedit installation file?

also I have no clue on how to install ktexts.. I also have had to do a complete reinstall (which im doing right now) because I tried to install MacVidia 1.0.88 and it caused the install to keep crashing at the white apple logo..

TextEdit is part of OS X......

To install kexts in /System/Library/Extensions, there are a number of ways:

1. The kext to be installed may be incorporated within a .pkg or .pkg installer......so just double-click on the installer........

2. Use Kext Helper b7........instructions given......

3. Manually using Terminal in OS X..........assuming the kext called Manual.kext is in a zipped folder.......

Step 1. Extract the zip file to the OS X Desktop......an icon named Manual.kext should appear on the Desktop

Step 2. Open Terminal...... its path is /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app

Step 3. Type

sudo -s

in Terminal and then your admin password following this......you should now be authorised as root and entered into a root shell with a prompt ending with the hash # symbol .......e.g. root# or bash-3.2#

Step 4 Type

sudo mv /Users/"Your account username"/Desktop/Manual.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

This should cause the icon named Manual.kext to disappear off the Desktop

Step 5. Type

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/Manual.kext

Step 6. Type

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/Manual.kext

Step 7. Type

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/

Step 8. Type

exit

to come out of the root shell and return to the normal user shell

Step 9. Reboot and hope it works

so should i be entering the sudo -s before entering the sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

command??

Is there any other way that I can edit this file??

Modify the com.apple.Boot.plist file as follows:

1. Go to the Terminal, and at the $ prompt, type in

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

2. Enter your password when requested. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor within the Terminal window.

3. Type in (without any spaces anywhere except where there are spaces)

Graphics Mode=1280x800x32

between <string> and </string> under <key>Kernel Flags</key>.

as shown below (only part of your com.apple.Boot.plist file):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x800x32</string>

<key>Kernel</key>

4. Move the cursor the Terminal window down until it no longer moves, then press Ctrl O and then Enter, to save the modified com.apple.Boot.plist file.

5. Press Ctrl X to Exit and type "exit" at the $ prompt to log out of the Terminal and then close and quit Terminal.

OK I added those lines but it still does not give me the option for that mode in the system preferences display area...?

Also the driver for the ethernet adapter seems to work, But I can not get my WIFI card to work, nor my sound card, and the graphics card is not working (but as you say its not supported)..

This is frustrating.. I may just try to install it on my Desktop as it seems as though that may be more compatible.. Can you look at these settings and tell me what you think..

Your Realtek audio codec is the Realtek ALC262 (vendor id=10EC ; device id=0262).......try the solution posted here.........double-click on the Installer pkg.......

Run DPCIManager with the WiFi card connected to see if its Vendor and Device IDs are picked up......

OK.. I have the sound working now which is great..

I thought my ethernet was working but it is not...

I am getting an error with the installation of the pkg nForceLAN_0.64.6.mpkg.zip which reades Systems Extension Cannot be used "The system ext /system/Library/Extensions/nforceLan.kext" was not installed properly???

I will try to find out the WIFI card info in a little bit.. Also the graphics thing is killing me because whenever I try to move/drag a window the window starts to dissappear which is obviously because of the Graphics card not properly working..

Oh and btw thanks for all of this help..

Ethernet networking

1. Confirm that 0.64.6 nForceLAN.kext is in /System/Library/Extensions/

2. Repair ownership and permissions for Extensions folder

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
 sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
 sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/

3. Re-create Extensions.mkext

sudo kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

4. If present, remove forcedeth.kext and nForceEthernetController.kext, and remove nvenet.kext, or rename it to nvenet.kext.bad......this is because nvenet loads even when another Ethernet/LAN kext has already been loaded for the hardware. In 10.5.7 and later (including 10.6.x), look in /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns.......this is a new location for nvenet.kext; prior to 10.5.7, this kext was not in IONetworkingFamily.kext.......

In Terminal, type

cd /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns
ls
sudo mv nvenet.kext nvenet.kext.bad
ls

"ls will list the files in PlugIns"

Graphics

Check if you can increase the amount of RAM shared by the GPU.........

The Manufacturer is Ralink, model number i believe is RT73.. Also I can not figure out how to "increase the amount of RAM shared by the GPU"..

For the RT73, see here and here.........

If you cannot change the amount of shared RAM in BIOS then you may be stuck with your current video performance.........

Yeah I think I'm stuck... I have tried everything to get the wireless adapter to work, and the Video Card.. Nothing seems to be working right now. Every time I attempt to install a Video driver and restart the computer, it gets stuck at the white and gray apple screen with the spinning cog stopping after about 3 minutes.. I must have installed and reinstalled about 20 times now.. It sucks because I feel like im so close to finally getting the thing to work.. but its not happening..

Also I have been trying to install the OSx on my Acer Aspire Desktop, and I have everything working on the Desktop but I can not get it to connect to the internet... I have put in the settings manually and I get 3 green lights but the last two lights (Internet and Server) are still red and say Failed under them

As I said before OS X does not support the 6100 integrated GPU so there is no video driver you can/should install..........hence your booting problems after installing a video driver.......

Yeah I know but I saw a few reports on the net that people have at least gotten it to where they can select a different resolution..

Also any tips on the internet connection for the desktop??

This topic is of absolutely no use to anyone other than rawdog805, and covers nothing that isn't already on the site, so basically amounts to "noise" or clutter a.k.a. junk posting. If verdant doesn't regret replying to this topic yet, then I question his sanity, even if his patience is to be admired.

For suture reference, such topics are a BAD THING. they may help 1 person, but they increase the difficulty for those who come after by making it harder to find decent knowledge amongst the noise.

Helping 1 whilst hampering many is not useful, however well-meaning.

Wow.. thats pretty harsh... But as I have already said thank you to Verdant for all of the help. I will no longer post in this topic for help, since it is obviously pissing some folks in these forums off..

I thought the purpose of creating a post was so that you could get help on something that had an effect on you and what you are trying to get help with?? I have been researching and looking around the net for the past 6 days trying to get this thing to work, so to say that everything is on the site is not true..

But once again Thank you Verdant for the help, I will gracefully bow out...

I have looked through my posts in this thread and the advice given is applicable to any newbie with a AMD CPU nForce 410/430 MCP & GeForce Go 6100 chipset MOBO with a Realtek ALC262 audio chipset..........and those also wanting to use a Ralink RT73 chipset USB WiFi dongle..........so if rawdog805 changes the topic title/details to reflect the above details, then all this useful information is in one place........rather than being dispersed within threads and individual posts within threads across the site.......information is either helpful or it is not.....its helpfulness is not diminished by repetition......the only difference being whether the repeated helpful information is dispersed all over the site or is concentrated in threads based on different hardware combinations and/or hardware component-specific software threads........

How can I regret helping someone successfully install, use and enjoy OS X on x86 (and hopefully at some point buy a real Mac, or Retail OS X Install DVD at least.....), including rawdog805, who like other newbies, has clearly found it difficult to find the required "gems" of knowledge hidden within the site because to find those "gems" starts with knowing what error messages mean and what questions need asking.....?

rawdog805 I hope that I have helped you sufficiently to set you on your way but it is obvious that Hagar wants this thread to stop..........

I am extremely happy to report that I have now gotten the ONBOARD LAN/Ethernet working on both my desktop and laptop.. As they are both NFORCE 430 LAN's.. Still trying to get the Ralink wireless to work for the laptop though.. Below is the method that I used to get the NFORCE 430 to work..

Network

This looks like a lot, but really you just chown it to root, chmod it to 755, turn off debugging in Info.plist, copy it to /System/Library/Extensions, clear your kextcache, and reboot.

1. Download Colonel's forcedeth-nockd.kext to your Dekstop.

2. Open Terminal from Applications/Utilities and type the following:

o cd ~/Desktop

o sudo chown -R root:wheel forcedeth-nockd.kext/

o sudo chmod -R 755 forcedeth-nockd.kext/

o sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit forcedeth-nockd.kext/Contents/Info.plist

3. Look for: <key>Debug</key> and then change <true /> (directly below the Debug line) to <false />

4. File -> Save | File -> Quit

5. Go back to Terminal and type: sudo kextload -v forcedeth-nockd.kext/

6. Open System Preferences and choose Network. It should detect your network card and obtain an IP

7. Browse the web to make sure your connection is working

8. Finally, install the kext and clear your kextcache by opening Terminal and typing:

o sudo cp -R forcedeth-nockd.kext /System/Library/Extensions

o sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

9. Reboot

Note: If you have any problems use: sudo kextunload forcedeth-nockd.kext/

That is good news for you........... :(

It would be helpful to others to include a link to Colonel's forcedeth-nockd.kext if you can..............

As for the Ralink driver, it appears that the Tiger 10.4.8 driver is what works......

So how would I get that 10.4.8 driver for the Ralink Wireless?? Would I just have to install 10.4.8..

Also on my Desktop I am having a hell of a time getting QE/IC to enable, the is a PNY 9800 GT DDR3 any idea what I have to do to get that enabled.. I have searched the internet and have not found a working solution or one that I know how to implement..
