Cerastez
This is a guide to get all your speakers working with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card. Mine is installed in a Dell GX620 running leopard 10.5.8. All the files you need are here: Surround_Sound_Files.zip Install your Audigy card Get into the Bios and disable the onboard audio, and re-start. Download and installkXAudioDriver-1.3b0, a link to it can be found in Oxtie's signature here . There are two versions available, 1.11b0 for Snow Leopard and 1.3b0 for Tiger and Leopard. Download and install Soundflower. Install AU Lab. It can be found on your retail Leopard installation disk, as a part of Apple Developer Tools. Go into the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Open Audio MIDI Setup. Under the Audio menu, click Open Aggregate Device Editor . Click the " + " to make an Aggregate Device Check kX SB0240 10k2 and Soundflower (16ch) Put the Clock button on Soundflower (16ch) . Click Done . Set the Default Input to Aggregate Device . Set the Default Output to Soundflower (16) . Set the System Output to PCI kX SB0240 10k2 . Under Properties For , set the pull down menu to Aggregate Device . Click Configure Speakers Click Multichannel and set the pull down menu to 5.1 Surround . Click Done . [*]Go into your Applications and open Soundflowerbed. Under the flower shaped icon in the toolbar, under Soundflower (16) , check Aggregate Device . [*]Go to Developer/Applications/Audio and open AU Lab. Use the + Add Output to add two stereo outputs, for a total of three outputs. Hit the Next Button Use the + Add Input to add one stereo input. Hit the Next Button Change the Audio Device to Aggregate Device Hit the Done button. Click on the small 2 and 3 boxes, located in the far left of the Audio 1 column. You should now hear all of your speakers working! Save this AU Lab file. NOTE: surround sound will only work if the AU Labs file that you just made is running. You can, however close Audio MIDI Setup and Soundflowerbed If you have followed the instructions and it just doesn't seem to work or if it used to work an now it doesn't and nothing has changed, you need to repair your permissions. I have used OSXTools and it works like a charm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make Your AU Lab File Open on Start Up and then Hide. Save your AU Lab file as MySurround Drag it into your start up drive. (it will be in the same folder as Applications, System and Library folders.) Download this applescript and put it in your Aapplications folder StartSurround.app Open System Preferences and go into Accounts Click the Login Items tab Click the + and select the StartSurround script in your Applications folder Check the box next to StartSurround Close System Preferences When you re-start, your AU Lab file should open and then hide. And your surround sound should work! The AppleScript looks like this: tell application "Finder" activate open document file "MySurround.trak" of startup disk end tell tell application "AU Lab" to activate tell application "AU Lab" to activate tell application "Finder" set visible of process "AU Lab" to false end tell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this tutorial was collected from many different posts, plus a whole lot of trial and error. lanxxx's Speaker Fill How to macgirl's [How to] Have sound on all of your speakers Parastie's HOWTO Stereo to Surround upscaling with ANY sound oxtie's Creative SB OSX Driver info here! YUNo5.1
Cerastez, any chance you could recompile these instructions for covering Lion? Pretty much the entire user interface of Audio MIDI Setup and AU Lab have changed since the making of this tutorial. And quite frankly I'm lost.
