Why Does The New Mac Pro Use EEC Memory?

Am confused.

Does the intel duo core that is made to run a OX86 box (not sure what motherboard) use both cores?

Will motherboards come out that will be able to run OSX 10.5 or who cares as long as we can use dual cores, overclock, and good memory and Lord willing dual display.

Why does the new Mac Pro use the EEC memory intstead of regular memory?

Sorry for so many questions.

Just unsure what to build yet. Want a machine that has dual display duo core 2 also!

Thank you.

hi:

my pentium d 920 uses both cores under osx, so i assume core duo would be the same.

mac pro uses EEC memory because thats what the Intel Xeon-compatible chipset requires.

as for 'why not 2 duo cores?' its because core duo chips are not SMP (symmetric multi-processor) compatible. ie you cannot use them in dual processor configurations (even though they are dual core). ie you cannot use two dual-cores to make a quad core, using Core Duo.
