RiceTea
Your CPU and memory appears to be actually a bit faster than the installation of Abberacus. You are let down essentially by the graphics. Did you switch beam sync off (provided you are using a TFT and not a CRT monitor)? Doing so should boost your Xbench score nicely. zedzed
I think my buddy has a v3 of Asus EAX1600XT CE/CI work but resolution switching does not work. Trying to change resolution manually making change in com.apple.Boot.plist Want to change to 1680 x 1050 It works in Windows but will not work at that resolution in OSX86 (10.4.7) Any ideas? Would be much appreciated
tha_toadman
zedzed, you have to use a resolution that's compliant with the VESA standards (either 2.0 or 3.0 depending on your card). The absolute highest setting for any 2.0 cards is 1280x1024 (x32 -- if you want to specify 32 bit depth or 24 bit, etc) I don't quite know what the max is for the VESA 3.0 but a quick search at 'google' might answer that one for ya. Trying to change resolution manually making change in com.apple.Boot.plist Want to change to 1680 x 1050 It works in Windows but will not work at that resolution in OSX86 (10.4.7) In Windows, the card is operating under the control of drivers so all of the features of the card can be accessed. In OSX without Boris, you are operating without drivers, just VESA, and VESA only supports a handful of resolutions.
zedzed
Are these the standard resolutions? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_display_standard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions
Rammjet
It depends to what level that is built into the video card firmware. The easiest way to find what VESA resolutions are available to you is to boot with F8 and enter "?video" on the command line.
tha_toadman
well all... i d/l'ed the 4.8 update and sure enough...neither this method, nor the complete boris method worked at all! my dev id is 71c0 and nothing worked for me. still stuck with 1024x768 unfortunately. i'm still pluggin away at it. zedzed
had to sell my asusu card, and brought another from newegg.com, its exactly the same, didnt need to change anything, everything works perfectly. Do you get full QE + CI + Resolution switching? Any chance you could pull your video card BIOS and share it with us here? Thanks
tha_toadman
well, i learn something new each time i come back to OSX... this time around, i discovered that when dual-booting (using WinGRUB), for some odd reason...this method will not work...? i verified things 2x and still stuck at 1024x768...this sucks. doesn't seem to make sense to me but i wanted to post what i just discovered. Rammjet
i d/l'ed the 4.8 update If you are speaking of the 10.4.8 update, none of the ones currently circulating replace any of the kexts in your system, so you are still running with the same drivers you were before the update. The 10.4.8 kexts have lots of ties to hardware and maybe even the kernel. Cyclonefr and NeoPheus tried to incorporate some of the 10.4.8 stuff into their installer but had to back away from it. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong but the 'boot.ini' method and/or WinGRUB didn't do a damn thing for me. guess i'll just have to emulate instead. bpeugh
Okay, I have the v3 and I recently screwed up my drive so that I had to reinstall the OS. I used the repacked version of JaS 10.4.7 and was able to get my card working (as much a it is able to under Mac OSX) with no patching beyond what the install DVD used. I was then prompty dancing around my room for the next few minutes.

zedzed
A while back someone sent me a file called Radeon.X1600.Support.pkg I installed it on my gen 3 Asus EAX1600xt card - the one which nothing else would work on. Guess what - it now works - but only on the DVI side. I get full QE/CI + Resolution + my monitor gets recognized! Sweet PS: Don't ask me where this package is from - someone sent it to me in email. teppei
OK now fully working (QE/CI, but resolution change it manually via Boot.plist) but still have a glitch..every time i run Keynote presentation or Slideshow on iTunes (i believe this is when QE/CI running), when i stopped it or moving my mouse.. the mouse cursor is gone! and changed to little artifact(dots) across the monitor. I once read about this somewhere in the forum, but cannot find it.. any kind of help very much appreciated like always :censored2: ah ya.. this is the method im using ; its kinda mix and match from the boris and tha_toadman : 1.Delete all kexts execpt X1000's and ATINDRV 2. on ATINDRV.kext/Contents/Info.plist : - i leave this (changing it into display give me the black screen w/ glicthes) <string>ATI,Wormy</string> - and change into <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> 3. on ATIRadeonX1000.kext/Contents/Info.plist : - add 0x71c61002 <key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x71c61002 0x71091002 0x71c51002 0x71c01002</string> 4. on ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin/Contents/Info.plist : - i leave this (change this into 100271c6 give me black screen w/ glitches) <key>CFPlugInFactories</key> <dict> <key>10025144-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key> <string>ATIRadeonX1000GAFactory</string> </dict> <key>CFPlugInTypes</key> <dict> <key>ACCF0000-0000-0000-0000-000a2789904e</key> <array> <string>10025144-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string> - and changed this -see below- (dunno why its working) - i believe changing this into IONDRVFramebuffer also give me QE/CI working, i dunno why i do this (change it to IOFramebuffer) <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOFramebuffer</string> this is close to working well.. i really need help to make this working without glitches or artifacts. Hardware used : Gigabyte X1650Pro 256MB dual DVI (using analog adapter due my monitor) OS X : Jas 10.4.6 with ATI 10.4.5 kexts Any kind of help would be very much appreciated !! and sorry for my English..
