Everything went ok during the update, i can boot with the backup kernel, but USB broke...

How can i fix them ? With no keyboard and mouse ? :-/

Just installed on two hackintoshes using software update, both are Gigabyte ep45-ud3p boards, one sports a gtx275, the other a gtx260.

 

I used the lifehacker method to install snow leopard, using stella's ep45 ud3p v3 installer pkg.

 

Both are working without issue so far, ethernet and audio a-ok.

Only issue I had was sleepenabler (not surprisingly) in my E/E folder. Removed it and 10.6.5 is OK on my EP45-UD3R board. Won't be able to try my EX58 machine until tomorrow.

Had 10.6.4 installed on C2D Quad, intel DP35DP mobo, nVidia 9800GTX+, Chameleon RC4, patched DSDT, latest VoodooHDA.

 

Installed 10.6.5 through software update (517MB) and it works well. Nothing to report.

i'm successful update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.5 without issues using combo update from Apple.

Updated from Software Update all is fine, just had to reinstall AppleHDA.kext, also I removed SleepEnabler.kext from the extra folder before updating.

That means you have a few kexts in your E/E folder that were updated in the S/L/E. The newer versions are running instead of the old ones, which may result in something that is in E/E no longer working.

 

Basically, that is a sloppy install that you have. If a kext has dependents in S/L/E then you should just install in there.

A couple of issues to note:

1) 10.6.5 has a USB bug. Basically, USB mouse/keyboard/ethernet works fine. However, when I plug in a firewire or usb thumbdrive/portable hard drive, it does not show up on the desktop or disk utility. However, if I go to System Profiler the information shows up fine.

A couple of things to note:

-I'm using the IOUSBFamily 10.6.2 rollback driver.

-On my macbook pro I do not have any USB issues when plugging in my thumb drive.

-I have a suspicion that this is an OSX issue since people with legit macs are bitching about the issue on apple's forum atm.

2) I'm using a, EVGA 9800GT 1024meg. Before I had to manually inject card's ID in to get support. Now, it does not require any sort of modification. However, the newer drive seems a bit odd. I get 100% full support with everything except when I'm dragging files. It is slight choppier. It might be my imagination.

3) The first time I changed my resolution above 1440x900 to 1980x1090 the screen went blue, like when not having a supported driver. After rebooting the computer in safe mode and changing the resolution again, then rebooting normally, it worked without any modification. I can't exactly explain wtf is up with the graphics card. It just 'decided' to work randomly.

Still have USB issues even after applying the fixes mentioned above, strange thing is my internal crystal eye webcam (apparently usb connection) works fine as well as my external usb network card. But it will not detect or load any usb drives at the moment.

After a whole day of trial and error, I finally fixed my USB-no-mounting problem. If you've previously had working USB with 10.6.4 (without needing the 10.6.2 USB rollback), this might work for you even if you've already updated to 10.6.5:

 

1. Download the 10.6.4 combo updater from Apple Support Downloads. Use Pacifist to extract IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext and save it to your Desktop.

 

2. Reinstall 10.6.5 using the combo updater, after installation DO NOT restart yet!

 

3. Install the 2 IOUSB kexts you earlier got from 10.6.4 using Kext Utility.

 

4. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility.

 

5. Restart and Voila! Fully working USB!

 

Let me know if this works for you guys with USB mounting problems.

 

EDIT: I've attached the IOUSB kexts from 10.6.4 to make things easier.
