Question About New Feature In 10.6.5 [DSDT]

EDIT: Sorry: It was not about 10.6.5 it was about 10.5.6 as I pasted. And...we have been informed by a reply that this statement was about about a development issue-not a release.

I saw this post else where:

"Why people still care about DSDT? is have been confirmed that you don't need DSDT in 10.5.6, I already tested my configuration without DSDT and works even more faster than when I was using it. DSDT is useless and slow your machine".

If it is true about DSDT in 10.6.5, how does that change the way we install & configure a Hackintosh? What parts of the process can be deleted. What new tasks are required?

If that post I saw isn't true, I guess DSDT will continue to have an important role for our installs.

I have looked for the best place to post these questions. New Releases & Updates/10.6.5 seem appropriate. Is there a better place to get good answers to these questions? Where?

I tried looking that up. Where did you find that and what are the details? Link

What boot loader? Is it GRUB2 (still requires DSDT as of my opinion)

Is it a Mac BIOS?

Just interested in learning if there is indeed a better method. Will post something i saw, but it was not answered and the download for it was pulled. (will edit with link)

Edit:

The posts that gave a hint of wonder

Read again grandpa :) I remember that post - it is old and says 10.5.6, not 10.6.5!

A long time ago (in OS X terms) before 10.5.6 was released there was a short period of time where those running developer pre-release builds of what was to become 10.5.6 could not boot without patching something in DSDT (don't remember what). During that time, fassl released his DSDTPatcher. Later came koalala's ACPIPatcher. But when 10.5.6 finally came out this was no longer an issue. But only for some people.

Until recently, when C- and P-state generation was added to Chameleon 2.0 RC5, Asus P5Q series motherboards could not boot retail OS X with all CPU cores working, without first removing the CPU aliases in the DSDT processor scope.

But even if you don't specifically need any changes to your DSDT in order to boot, there are still lots of things you can do with it:

Hello,

for me the update to 10.6.5. was HARMLESS.

GFX (9800GT and 4670) still working, just went out of audio.

Sure I deleted old sleepenabler before the update.

Then 2 get audio working I just took the new AppleHDA kexts and binary patched them, one time to ALC888 other to ALC 662. Working perfect.

The GNU sleepenabler makes KP on my machines. So I just need a new working 64/32bit sleepenabeler for 10.6.5.

AS SAID : ALL ABSOLUTLY HARMLESS

cheers

At my age being a bit dyslexic should be allowed. Plays hell with phone numbers!

Got to see the eye doctor soon. But I got the numbers correct, just a bit in the wrong order. THANKS for the additional information& the historical info.{Apologies to those who suffer dislexia, I know it is tough-I really have a bit}

Hello all,

I am new to this world and I am going to need your help here. I just installed 10.6.5 and see below, kernel panic. Please help...

You have a common issue to resolve that you need to reinstall the kernel that match your processor and possible some kexts do it and tell us what going on...

I upgraded to 10.6.5 using software update which I expected would be safe as I had upgraded to 10.6.4 in this way in the past. Unfortunately I was wrong. I'm getting a KP right after the Apple screen.

I booted verbose and noted that the KP happened when after

VoodooHDADevice[0x23a9f000]::free

panic...

Replaced AppleHDA.kext with the version from #####.

Panic again--same place as you can see:

post-162048-1293363635_thumb.jpg

I can boot with -x

I am not very good at debugging, can some of you experts give me an idea about how I might fix this without starting from scratch?

Thank you for any ideas!

I just installed 10.6.5 then ran #####.

Appears to be booting fine then after the grey apple logo screen it just hangs at a blue screen.

Any ideas of what I could do to fix this?

Is there a way I can boot off my "Install" thumbdrive and run ##### again?

Hello,

you r getting KP from VoodooHDA obviously. There seem to be some artifacts of voodooHDA still in your system. Check E/E, S/L/E and clear caches!

I have updated on the same mobo and had no problems.

OK one has to replace SleepEnabler and I had to patch AppleHDA again.

I have added my ALC 662 kext, you can install it in E/E and than patch AppleHDA.

Works perfect. Just get rid of all other voodoo audio stuff.

Maybe you have to edit your DSDT, if there is no ALC 662 sound section, too.

I suggest you try dsdtautopatcher.

If all goes wrong, pm me. as said, I have the same mobo and all working.

Cheers

Thanks Dino! I looked around and deleted AppleHDA.kext and Legacy888bHDA.kext entirely (rather than use the older version). I expected that this would kill my sound, but surprisingly it booted up and everything worked--audio was fine, including the mic on my HP USB webcam! I didn't add ANYTHING ELSE, I only deleted those two files.

Sleep is not working, so I will have to find the correct SleepEnabler, but that's a minor issue.

Thank you again for your help.

Charlie says: "Either use voodooHDA or legacy audio. but never, never, use them both at the same time" ;)

Never mind! OK?! I have attached u an working 10.6.5 SleepEnabler for being so rude ;) (no "pmVersion settings necessary"

Please check if audio still works after you have cleared all kext caches! Strange that you have audio working with deleted AplleHDA. Maybe some is left in Extensions.mkext somewhere.

Anyway. Try the legacy and patch method too. You get great sound and 4outgoing channels + front ports working.

Glad I keep help.

Cheers
