cable909
Hey All, I'm attempting to use an Apple branded ATI HD 5770 with my Hackintosh (10.6.4.) When I boot I'm getting a backtrace like this: Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.ATIRadeonX3000(6.1.8)@0xffffff7f80a12000->0xffffff7f80baffff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6)@0xffffff7f80604000 I tried removing the ATIRadeonX3000 kext but this causes the boot to stall. I also tried installing the ATY_init kext to no avail. Any ideas?

Are you using ATI_init that uses vervet framebuffer for 5770? Have you tried either Mohammed's chameleon boot for 5xxx or Kably's chameleon for ati4xxx and 5xxx ? (< not sure if this has been committed to chameleon trunk yet?) D

(< not sure if this has been committed to chameleon trunk yet?) D Thanks D, I got it working by doing the following: - Moving the ATIRadeonX3000.kext out of S/L/E. - Editing the ATY_init and replaced all occurrences of the string "Vervet" with "Hoolock". - Reboot. - Use kexthelper and reinstalled ATIRadeonX3000 - Reboot And all is well, apple branded 5770 working with a 27" Cinema Display. cable909
Hay cable909 Any chance we can see your cinebench scores? Never used Cinebench before so excuse me if this isn't what you're looking for. My system scored a 23.04 fps on the OpenGL test with a 99.3 Reference match. The system is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 8GB RAM. Let me know if you need more detail than this (and how I can get it.) Is this an expected score given the card? Thanks cable909, Unfortunately after swapping out the Info.plist I still have a black screen on the 27" after booting. Could you tell me what bootloader you are using or what boot plist options you have such as 32/64 or any other suggestions? Thanks Again

Time2Retire
Well well. This is fabulous news. And I wonder about the benchmark score as well. Could be a great card for 230 Euro. Oh and do you mind attaching your ioreg dump for me? Thank you.
FKA
Could be a great card for 230 Euro. or you could just go for the none apple branded card for half the price and I suspect slight better performance! D
RemoteWorks
or you could just go for the none apple branded card for half the price and I suspect slight better performance! D Sure, but no Apple mini display port. RW
FKA
Excuse my ignorance but you can purchase a mini displayport to apple mini displayport adapter for just a few Pounds! Google Search Surely a cheaper option than paying an extra £100 for an underclocked Apple branded card? D

sevensevens
have you installed graphicsupdate 1.0? I have Installed graphicsupdate 1.0, but i should have been clearer, I can get the card to work fully accelerated on a different monitor plugged in to the same port @1440x900 but when the 27" is plugged in there is no video. If i screen share to the hackintosh it recognises the 27" Cinema Display is plugged in and the resolution is right, but there is no picture I have about 5 Days left before I can return the video card back to apple for a refund, and thats the reason i bought the apple branded one! Help!

sevensevens
See post #400 here - it may help?? Tried That, the bootloader runs in full res, but when OSX loads i get a blank screen I must confess im a bit of a noob, ok alot of a noob, so it could be something i just dont understand, What bootloader should I be using Should I be in 32 or 64 Should I be using GraphicsEnabler When I boot in verbose mode I see this: ATY_Init: Starting ATY_Init: Card 0x68b8 was not posted ATY_Init Devid from binimage: 68b8 Is this something to worry about? Thanks again, and I guess, let the flaming begin?

I dont think so. and I guess, let the flaming begin? LOL - you are asking a perfectly reasonable question! Tried That, the bootloader runs in full res, but when OSX loads i get a blank screen I didn't mean try the bootloader I meant try setting GraphicsMode in your boot.plist. D Yes, After Editing com.apple.boot.plist to include GraphicsMode 2560x1440x32 the only difference I noticed was the bootloader screen ran at full resolution but when the osx desktop loaded, Black Screen any clue why the boot loader screen is able to run in full resolution right away but after loading all the kexts it fails? cable909
Oops, did not know this worked RW From what I've read only the Apple branded card will work with the 27" ACD, apparently because of a unique signal the card sends. I haven't tried, but from what I've read the converter boxes dont send this signal. Thanks cable909,Unfortunately after swapping out the Info.plist I still have a black screen on the 27" after booting. Could you tell me what bootloader you are using or what boot plist options you have such as 32/64 or any other suggestions? Thanks Again No problem, I'm using Chamleon. FWIW, I had the blank screen as well until I changed out the Vervet string. It might be worth uninstalling the kext, editing the kext in another location and reinstalling the editing kext again. I'm guessing you're very close.

Again please excuse my ignorance - I'm looking at the previous model of 27" ACD in fact i think this goes for all sizes, and it has a DVI connector! Do the latest models only have Apple mini displayport connector? Also I find it hard to believe they require a unique video signal - DVI, HDMI, mini display are all (give or take embedded audio.) the same data stream.. D The 27" ACD I purchased on Friday only has a mini displayport connector. It would surprise me as well if it requires a unique video signal, but to be on the safe side I just picked up the Apple branded card. I read hear and I think on the tonymacosx86 page that people had difficulty with non-Apple branded cards and the monitor. Again, complete hearsay. Additionally, for those who were asking, my system scored a 23.04 on the Cinebench OpenGL test. I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me if this is a good / expected result for the Radeon card. FKA
complete hearsay. absolutly - I'll see if we have any new ACD's on order at work, might be able to have a mess around with one. D
