teehee Posted August 5, 2006 Share Posted August 5, 2006 My 15" MacBook Pro is Coming in soon. I wouldn't dare use it on my lap after the reviews I've read. Better safe than sorry, right? dscarty Posted August 6, 2006 Share Posted August 6, 2006 The Kensington base doesn't use fans or a usb plug in but let's you swing the laptop up at an angle to make typing easier and let the laptop cool thru the base. Technobob Posted August 6, 2006 Share Posted August 6, 2006 I don't have a Mac laptop yet but I use a VanTec Lapcool it has a powered or unpowered 4 port 2.0 USB hub with 2 cooling fans and it keeps my Thinkpad T40 nice and cool. I was at the computer store to buy a USB hub when I came across the lapcool for the same price as the hub and I get a cooler too it was worth it. My t42 is on pretty much 24/7 and it never heats up. I'm not trying to start a "my laptop is better than your laptop" thing but it has to be said. And I'm not trying to start a "my laptop disipates its heat better than your laptop" thing, but it has to be said The t60p and the macbook pro have *almost* the same internal hardware when configured certain ways. The difference is that the t60 has a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic case while the macbook pro has an aluminum alloy case which acts as a heatsink and conducts more avidly than the carbon-fiber. I think its a bit naive to say that your t42 "never heats up." I do agree though that you might be able to say "I can use my t42 all day without feeling the repercussions on my lap skin." FriedCPU Posted August 16, 2006 Share Posted August 16, 2006 I have a 17" macbook pro and use it on my lap for 4hrs+ at a time, i never feel it getting THAT hot, this is while playing ut2k4, listening to music, browsing, designing. I dont think you have anything to worry about, and the things you have read on the internet were probably about the early releases of the mbp's. I have a MBP 15" and looking at the size of the koolsink, the 15" Pro model is a little smaller than the MBP. Which Koolsink is supposed to be used with the MBP 15" ? Before this the temp is around 58 and currenty it is only 50.
