Thanks, I was wondering the same thing. I got a i7 Hack I wanted to post up in the market place but I obviously cant do so until I reach 10 posts. This is annoying as im going on 2 years membership,I dont think I exactly qualify as a newb anymore.

And in two years what you did for the forum?

Kept my mouth shut, read, learned, used the search function and enjoyed the wealth of information available. Am I suppose to do something else as well?

and how do we know if these are the your first 2 posts?

Hahaha. Is that a real question? I mean, I suppose I could have hacked the site to make it look like these are my first two posts. :hysterical:

not necessarily

Please elaborate on your statement, Im curious.

If you are registered to the tax authorities for 20 years does not mean that you have always paid contributions

What exactly does that have to do with my first 2 posts? I am not following your analogy.

CM690, Why does my join date differ on the screen shot you posted from my actual join date? Yours says December 26th. ???? Must be the time difference from your country to my country.

I never insinuated it being difficult.

I did however insinuate that with the length of my membership being taken into consideration it being annoying to do so. So instead of just making the post I initially came here to make, Im busy racking up useless posts chatting with you fine people.

OK, but that is not a good reason for writing totally useless posts in order to reach your 10. You could get an official warning for that.

Well I guess I should re phrase that statement then, They are useless post's to me personally.

While I am actively participating in a real discussion on this thread and not just spamming to get my ten posts its still a discussion I would not otherwise be having if I did not need ten posts to create the thread I originally came here to make. You see?

If I am in any breach of the sites rules, I would gladly accept your warning.

Obviously you guys think it works or you wouldn't have the system in place ... But it kinda feels like a disincentive to new community members, and like you have to spend ten minutes finding forum thread to post in before you can engage.

Ok, that's gonna be a disincentive to people who want to get spamming. Great.

On the other hand, it's a serious disincentive to anyone who is keen to engage usefully in the community but values their time enough to not want to have to click around and make a few random posts ...

(oh no - does this mean I don't value my time? Argh!)

The New Users Lounge isn't just a waste of time. Some people have got plenty of help here. Plus I have seen some very good posts/topics even from beginners.

I don't see why not (you can't engage usefully in the community), as the only limitation is that you can't start new topics in other sections of the forum.

  • 1 month later...

I agree that there could be a reason for introducing limitations for new users. The point is that in fact there might be more disadvantages of such a limitation than good.

@Alessando & Giorgio: Not need to get angry about the complains - you could take them as an input for making the forum even better :)

I also have a problem with this limitation. I registered yesterday and was really disappointed that I am not allowed to post to the main forum, as I don't think that somebody reading the newbie forums will be able to answer such a complex issue:

I don't get angry. As a member of staff I know what is behind the New Users Lounge. We have been trying other solutions, we have been discussing for several months, and this solution seems the best so far. Another possible solution, although probably very effective is a lot less palatable both to the users and to the management of this forum.

You have been proven wrong. Besides your issue is really off-topic here, as it seems more like something for Apple customer service.
