Eos9 Posted October 23, 2010 Share Posted October 23, 2010 I have recently been getting several messages regarding not having enough Start up space on the main drive or a lack of Scratch disk space when using Adobe elements. I do have a large quantity of photographs stored on iphoto but despite deleting a large number of these the messages still re-appear. I am somewhat confused however as to why when I delete several GB of photos it doesn't appear to make any difference. When I look on the 'Activity' monitor it states that I only have 350 mb of free space on the main hard disk. However when I transfer then delete 10GB of photos from iphoto to an external drive it still only shows 350mb of free space even after rebooting etc !!! I would appreciate any advice therefore on why this might be and also how best to view where the space is being used and how best to maintain the main drive. Having previously used Windows I was used to running applications like disk defrag etc but I'm unsure if I need to run any applications on a Mac to keep the drive running smoothly. Can,t really understand whats going on as I don,t really have a lot else downloaded on the Mac apart from 1000's of photos on Iphoto. I can't even update Itunes as it says it needs 6GB of space to do so. Even if I delete 20GB worth of photos I still get the same response and my free space shown for the drive doesn't even appear to change !!! After deleting the files, did you empty your trash? Anonomys1991 Posted November 11, 2010 Share Posted November 11, 2010 how much ram do you have installed how big is your hard drive and how much space are you using? if you are using any more than 50-60% of your hard drive it does slow your computer down if you do not have enough ram to launch that program than your mac will use hard drive space as virtual ram if its a combination of both i fell bad for you Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
