The sound plays immediately after pressing the power button. Theoretically it might be possible to hack the BIOS/EFI for your particular mobo to play the sound first, before it does anything else, but it would be highly impractical. A somewhat more practical solution would be to buy a cheap wal*Mart MP3 player, and somehow rig it so it plays the sound when you press the power button. An even more practical solution involves a comprimise. Make an AppleScript that plays the sound file, and set it as a logon item. That way, the sound will play when you reach the desktop much like the Windows startup sound. BTW, the "sound file" I speak of can be extracted from an app called Mactracker. Right-click and go to "show package contents." Then browse to "contents/resources/chimes/PCI based Power Mac.m4a." FYI, this chime has been used in all Macs made over the past decade. wondergod Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 i actually had a motherboard that supported that...asus a7n8x deluxe...i mean its an older motherboard but that was the coolest feature...I had it play the simpsons quote "Hey smithers you really know how to turn me on" whenever I booted...it was the best thing ever...in fact a friend bought the same exact motherboard just for that feature....they need to put that feature on more motherboards... Neonkoala Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 I also have a similar Asus motherboard which allows custom sounds, its meant as a diagnostic feature, but theres nothing to stop you changing the sounds to anyhting you like. LOLLLLLLLLLLLl thats a funny sound clip. i wonder how well does OSX86 runs on a {censored} board lol. not really a fan of BR-ASUS but then again they can do some work on designing where cables to hit the fan or stuff like that nature. But you can store and play a sound in a PIC Microcontroller. I dunno how to make it, i'm reading about it. But I heard about people that use this technique to make custom horn's car. Then first program the Apple Chime on a PIC Microcontroller pic16f876, and this conected to a micro speaker. It costs less than $25 and only requires basic soldering skills.
