iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 Leopard Installation Guide on Asus P4G8X Deluxe (Broadcom BCM5702 Vendor ID 14E4 Device ID 16A6, Realtek AC97, ATI 9250 PCI, P4 2.4GHz, IDE Hard Drive)

This guide is intended for experienced users. You have the responsibility if you mess up with your system.

1. Make sure you have an IDE hard drive set with its jumper setting set to Master and connected as Primary Master (blue connector on the motherboard). The jumper setting of the DVD drive should be set to Master and connected as Secondary Master (black connector on the motherboard). During the installation, disconnect all the SATA drives you may have.

2. Download the attachments and unzip them onto a USB flash drive.

3. Make a note of your ethernet card's MAC address by booting on an another operating system.

4. Download iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 and burn it on a DVD.

5. Start the installation.

6. Open the Disk Utility and create a partition on the hard drive.

7. Click on Customize.

8. Select the 9.2.0 Sleep Kernel, AppleGenericPCATA, AppleAC97Audio.

DO NOT ever try to upgrade the kernel, this is the only kernel that will work with this motherboard.

9. Continue with the installation.

10. When the Mac OS X boots, enable root:

  • From the Finder's Go menu, choose Utilities.
  • Open Directory Utility.
  • Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
  • Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
  • Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
  • Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.

11. Insert your USB flash drive and copy the unzipped contents to your Desktop.

12. Edit the file rc.local, replace the 00:00:00:00:00:00 with your network card's MAC address.

13. Go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.

14. In the following commands, the selected username is testuser. Substitute with your own username.

Be very careful with the following commands as they can destroy your installation.

Do not copy and paste them, slowly type them double-checking each character.

Execute the following:

su
(enter your root password)
cd /
cp /Users/testuser/Desktop/rc.local /etc/
chown root:wheel /etc/rc.local
chmod 755 /etc/rc.local
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins</font>/AppleBCM*
cp -R /Users/testuser/Desktop/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext
rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
kextload /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext
sh /etc/rc.local

You can now go to the Apple menu on the top left and to System Preferences and Network to manually set your network card details.

15. If you want to change just the resolution for the ATI Raden 9250 PCI with Vendor ID 1002 and Device ID 5960 (there is no QE/CI with this card available on Leopard):

Open /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist with a text editor and add the following two lines after <string><string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x1024x32</string>

Because the kernel is old, you may have problems with dmg files. You could try unzipping them on Windows and copying the folder to Mac OS X or with dmgconverter to iso.
