Hey I'm going to buy a new laptop, the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q885, and I just need to know if it is able to run Mac OS X Snow Leopard with the hardware that it has. I absolutely despise Windows, and the whole reason why I'm buying a new laptop is so I can have a very fast computer without paying the EXTREME price that Apple is asking for, for the same hardware basically. And I don't want to just dump $1300 on a new laptop and it not be able to run Mac. lol So, here are the specs:

it should work, for the guy having trouble are your bios setting properly set?

Hey, i apologize for the extremely late response (i haven't been online). But, just needed to know if hackint0sh would work with this computer. I don't have this computer yet, right now I'm rocking a Dell Inspiron E1505 kalyway :D But I searched a lot and found this computer, and I really like the hardware that it has for the price. And for the people who do have it, is it a good laptop?

I have Qosmio X500-11Z, I guess hardware is the same with very minor differences (to my knowledge, BIOS is the same for all X500/X505 laptops).

Installed using nawcommod cd + retail 10.6.3. (##### didn't work last time I tried, didn't try it this time).

!!! You need to delete IOFirewireFamily driver from the image before burning, and from the disk after installing (and after patching 10.6.5). !!!

Patched to 10.6.5 (had a panic at the end but reboot with CD went fine, hopefuly nothing broke because of that)

Then ##### and reboot to the system without CD.

Sound is a problem - only latest VoodooHDA works, but eats 1 core (uses 100% CPU of one core, no errors).

Internal Mic input doesn't work - external input works.

Touchpad works with VoodooPS2

Battery works with VoodooBattery...

Gigabit ethernet works with AtherosL1cEthernet driver (use the 2010-10-10 version or you'll get ocassional panics).

Wireless works - but I changed my card for Atheros a/b/g/n one. No idea whether the original realtek is supported (but it's a piece of junk so just swap it if you can).

3D works, Quartz works..

It's quite usable but not quite stable, sometimes it panics for no reason (working in terminal), sometimes it doesn't boot (but does in verbose mode without changing anything).

Tried custom fixed DSDT found here from another member - worked (sort of) but still no Firewire and VoodooHDA stopped working completely...

Not sure if I missed something - I'd say it works way better than I expected - happy camper :)

Got Mac OSX10.6.3 to work on my Qosmio x505-870.

My simple instructions. Details could be learned from other posts . Just here to give some more info.

1.Download ##### and use it for booting.

2.Create a ripped image of Original MacOSX 10.6.3 disk using Transmac.

3.Using Transmac delete kexts in newly created MacOSX image. (AppleFWAudio*,IOAudioFamily*,IOFireWire*,AppleMultitouchDriver*,Audio*)I hope you know what the "*" is for.

4.Burn to DVD the edited MacOSX image.

5.Setup your laptop bios (common instructions found elsewhere).

6.Boot with ##### Disk.

7.Switch disk to edited MacOSX disk. Press "f5"

8.Type "-V" Run install in Verbose mode important as any other way don't work.

9.Run install , watch carefully and immediately after it completes run "Terminal " in Utility. Don't let it restart automatically or else you gonna have to do it again till you get it right.

10.In Terminal go to Volumes/"Your Mac install name"/System/Library/Extensions and delete kexts listed in step #3.

11.Restart and switch back to ##### disk then go to your newly installed MacOSX.

At this point sound works but set to headphones so if you wondering why you cannot hear anything. Ethernet works. Wireless not yet. USB yes. Firewire unknown yet. Nvidia Cuda driver was downloaded from "Kexts" site. HDMI, not yet. VGA not yet.

The main reason I need MACOS is for Quartz Composer and audio to work. (VJ usage) All other features I will depend upon my Win7 which came in the box.

Now back to booting into MacOSX. ##### don't work well with this laptop. Butif you run ##### it will boot properly , but it kills my audio.Chameleon boot-loader will make the computer freeze upon startup. It could have something to do with my harddrive configurations. In verbose mode I see it freezes at the point where my other harddrive is being recognized.

Untill I find a solution I don't mind booting off my ##### disk then back to selecting my OS of choice.

FYI my harddrive configuration is 2 physical hardrive partitioned each for Windows and MAC, if you know of any solution to booting with audio let me know please. Greatly appreciate that.

I've got dual win7 and 10.6.5 working well here on my x505-887 plus 4gb ... only firewire and wireless not working as usual, but I've notice that my HDMI port is not working as my previously 10.6.3 version did.

Someone got the HDMI working?

Thanks,

Ze Cahue
