Hi! :(

my mainly issue is where to start and what to install (what to pick to my hardware... )

thanks for any help

i got this computer: laptop samsung r590

- intel i5 520M

- nVidia GeForce GT 330M (1g dedicated)

- 4gb ram ddr3

- h.d 500GB 5400rpm S-ATA

- dvd Super Multi Dual Layer

- lan 802.11b/g/n

- sound SRS 3D

what distribution should i install for this ? maybe retail ? (will i need cdkey... ?)

this is the first question

second, later i wana dual boot with my already installed win7 64bit, will it work ?

or i must choose between them ?

the comp is new so i dont mind currently to format for the needed changes

thanks again!

Go retail...

and no osx will not need any key but still go buy the dvd.. it is only 29$ for a orginal dvd...

It is possibel to make room on the drive for the osx install and thenjust use chameleon after to boot both osx and windows

Hi,

my advice is, to start with http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...0.6.3/Portables

(Portable in your case) & a retail SL DVD. You will find a lot of guides that helps you, especially for understanding whats going on.

tnx for the help

ok, i'll d/l the retail

(if i'll stick with the osx i promise to buy it)

just about the dual boot to be sure, ( i read in this forum)

1. i get the retail and burn it to dvd (matter how?)

2. i make a new partition for the osx and format it to FAT.. ? (is it enough)

3. then i put dvd normaly and but from there and install on the new partition

4. and now i need something that will let me choose the os i want on the start, for that i use chameleon? he will recognize my both os ?

thanks :(

  1. It depends on the image formate you have. If it is .iso burn with any image burning application (nero, cdburnerxp). If it is a .dmg use a MacDrive to burn the image.
  2. It is. OS X (at least Leopard) do not support NTFS natively, so there should be a FAT formatted partition, as it is recognised natively by OS X.
  3. If you do a retail install (from a retail DVD - not a "distro" disk), you will need a special boot CD called Boot132 or any similar. The retail OS X DVD WILL NOT boot by itself on a PC. Make sure you use the correct CD, as they are different for Leopard and Snow leopard. Also they differ by hardware supported (what drivers are included in the CD). When installing from a "distro" disk, just put it in to the DVD drive and install.
  4. OS X CAN NOT boot by itself on a PC (cos usualy there is no EFI on a PC). So you need a pre boot environment - boot loader. Such as a Chameleon. Though Chameleon perform some additional functions, so it is not only a boot loader.

thanks mate , just to clear things

1. got it !

2. the new partition i format to FAT, then from the osx disc,i read that i need to format it again to HFS+ (from the disk utility), right? or i confusing things..

3. i m going to instal RETAIL 10.6 , so as u said i need to burn also on another disc the boot132 for this version , boot from it and then switch to the instalation disc ?

4. i understand that for boot enviroment i need the chameleon , when i install it ? after the osx and from the osx?

and last , it will enable me to dual boot with my existence os, win7 and let me choose who to boot on the start?

THANKS again :D

Actually you can just leave the partition blank and then use Disk Utility (on the installation DVD) to format it.

Yes that's correct, it's kind of like the swap-trick on a Playstation.

4. Yes and yes. It's not that simple however, normally you will lose the ability to boot Windows if you overwrite the boot sector with Chameleon. There are several ways to work around that however. The simplest way is to install OS X on a separate hard drive.

But until you get to that point, you can use your boot CD to boot your OS X installation.
